Spinning around, Lyra grinned as she spotted him. "Hey." She greeted cheerfully, pulling her earbuds out of her ears and shoving them into her pocket, pausing her music. "Pancakes?" She offered, flipping the fresh pancakes from the pan and onto a new plate and setting them on the counter in front of him. Reaching under the cabinet she withdrew syrup and set it down as well, grinning. "I am good at making pancakes. Just ask Malik." She chuckled, pulling one out of the microwave and ripping a chunk off and tossing it to the dog.
Xal nodded at her with another chuckle. She was a strange girl and he couldn't help but be reminded of his mom at that moment. She was always a morning person who loved cooking. "Sounds good,", he answered a nod and glanced at Malik, watching as he devoured the piece of pancake. "Dogs drink out of the toilet and sometimes their own vomit," he pointed out. He looked back at her and smirked, "but I bet they're delicious."
"Are you dissing my puppy?" Lyra gasped dramatically, tossing more pancake at Malik and kneeling down to hug him protectively. "Never diss my puppy. He has great taste and should be respected." She pouted, petting the dog one last time before straightening. She rinsed her hands off quickly and then moved back to the stove, ladling out more pancakes onto the stove. Once again she reached into the microwave and tossed Malik a chunk of pancake, grinning as he leaped straight up to catch it.
Xal laughed and shook his head, composing himself enough to return the dramatic gasp. "Dis your pup? No never. Why would I do such an awful thing?" He drawled and tsked at her accusation of his words, "I was just pointing out that some dog's tastes are questionable but I on the otherhand have complete trust in Malik and his obviously superb sense of taste," he drawled with a wink. He leaned back in his seat, watching her a bit longer before he got up, grabbed a glass to get himself a drink. "So, the guys coming to set up the security system will be here this afternoon... Think you'll be ready by then?"
"I don't know why you would dare do something so horrific, that's why I asked. My poor sweet baby doesn't deserve your cruelty." Lyra pouted, scratching Malik behind the ears. "What guys? What do you mean, ready?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow at him and taking a pancake out of the microwave, taking a bite from it. As her tradition had been going she tossed a piece to Malik, who once again caught it. But she waved the dog off and he wandered over by Xal, sitting on his feet and staring up at him rather pointedly. "
Xal snorts and shook his head at her in disbelief, "I can't believe you immediately think the worst of me," he said mournfully, hand on his chest as if he was physcially wounded there. "Me cruel? To gorgeous dogs? You must be out of your mind," he tsked, all very teasing. Xal raised a brow as he returned to his seat with his drink, leaning back. "The guys you hired to set up your new security system. You need to get ready because it would not be good for you to be seen with me so you'll need to greet then then let them do their job," he informed her, taking a sip of his drink. He set it down and glanced at Malik, raising a brow before he smiled a bit then proceeded to pet him.
"Hey, you are a big tough gangster." Lyra pointed out, chuckling slightly. "What am I supposed to think? After all we did sleep together." She winked, smirking at him through her next bite of pancake. When he continued she tensed slightly and glanced over at him, biting her lip. "Does that mean you're going to leave when they get here?" She questioned, her voice tight. "I don't want to be alone, I don't know the people coming I don't want to be alone with them please don't leave me." The girl half begged, all the sudden just stopping and staring at him. "No, no, I'll be fine. You have stuff to go, I'll be fine." Despite her insistence, her hand went down to where Malik's head usually would be when he was with her, which was usually.
Xal laughed when she said that, "I'm glad you recognize that but by now I thought you'd see how big hearted I am," he drawled, "though not the only big thing I have.." He mused with a smirk. He looked at her and chuckled, shaking his head, "so that makes me cruel? You wound me darling, wound me," he told her. He continued to pet Malik but glanced at her, raising a brow. He opened his mouth to reply but she was already on a rant, rambling. "Lyra-Lrya," he attempted but went silent when that failed to wait until she said her fit. "Lyra, I won't be leaving, I said I'd be staying today. When they come here I'll be hiding in your room, they won't set up in there, once you greet and let them in you can isolate yourself in there with me until they finish," he explained calmly, "I've given them their pay and had instructions of leaving once they finished as well as not to bother you after the initial greeting. Okay?". He was worried about how she handled that prospect of him leaving but hopfully she'd calm soon, but he had Scotti to be here for her when he did eventually leave.
"I don't know, you are cruel. I don't think you have anything big, heart or otherwise." Lyra taunted, flipping the pancakes again. "Well you do deserve it, you've wounded many people yourself." She pointed out with a grin, smirking slightly. She frowned as she stared at him, shifting uncomfortably. "Promise you'll stay with me?" she pleaded, swallowing hard. "I mean, I don't- I just..." She bit her lip, looking down. Finally she took a deep breath, running a hand through her tangled red hair. "I'll be fine after a bit but it hurts and I'm not the type to get attacked and I've never been before and I don't know how to deal with it."
Xal couldn't argue about that statement any further because he knew due to who he was, what he controlled, he had to be cruel or else it would get chaotic. "You continue to wound me woman, my masculinity cannot take much more of it," he drawled dramatically. He looked at her, expression momentarily darkening while becoming impassive. "I have, done even worse than that," he murmured under his breath, quiet enough for her to miss it. He shook that off and gave her a soft smirk, "Lyra, stop stressing yourself out, I won't be leaving you until you're more prepared. I can assure you I will definitely be staying today, just will be in your room until the men leave," he confirmed, getting up to embrace her in a hug, "I will help you as much as I can Lyra," he murmured softly in assurance.
"Masculinity, ha! As if you have any in the first place." Lyra teased, lightly punching him in the arm. Glancing to the side she dropped yet another pancake chunk down to her dog, smiling as Malik leaped forward on it. Then she looked back at Xal, shifting uncomfortably. Sniffling slightly she rested her forehead against him as she leaned into his hug, biting her lip. "No, no, you don't have to. It's not your fault." She insisted, swallowing hard. "You don't have to stay that long if you don't want to. You have a life to live and it's not fair to keep you from it. I'll be okay. It's just that I'm not used to it." Despite her words being rather realistic and comforting, there was no doubting that she was still uncomfortable about everything. Lifting her head a bit, she kissed his cheek lightly.
Xal raised a brow and gave her an incredulous look after a brief glance at the arm she hit, "excuse me? Do I need to prove myself to you. I can show you how masculine I can be," he responded in a quiet purr. for a moment portraying the dangerous thug all his men know him to be.
He reverted back when Malik moved and watched Lyra carefully before sighing while patting her head. "Lyra, I already stated I will be staying. Just because you say you'll be okay doesn't mean I will feel that it is safe enough to leave just yet. So shush," he instructed and assured as best as he could while silencing the topic. "No more talking, it is breakfast, it is time to eat," he teased her and ruffled her hair. Doing so would block her from catching the light blush on his cheeks.

"You know, I think you might have to. You don't seem all that masculine... I'm going to need some proof." Lyra smirked as she looked over at him, grinning cheerfully and not seeming very inclined to move away from his hug. After all, she wasn't someone who got minimal contact, but who adored affection. "Good. I'm glad you're staying." She said firmly, ducking her head and giggling as he ruffled her hair. "There's always time for talking!"
Xal scoffed and rolled his eyes, "I can't believe you're questioning me, a man you feared not even a day and so before," he drawled and glanced at her, "your immunity will be your undoing. However, I don't need to prove anything to you," he drawled with a smirk, matching her own. Something he'd never admit to anyone but his mother, is that how easily and quickly he bonded to this girl scared him. She was close to him so easily and could be used against him without mercy and it would destroy him despite appearing unaffected. There was so much risk.
He nodded, "that's good, I was starting to think you just wanted to send me away," he drawled with a wink. He snorted and shook his head, "that's what you think," he said, "you'd do poorly in interrogations," he teased.

"Oh really? I haven't seen anything to be scared of since then." Lyra taunted him, kissing his cheek before sliding away. She flipped the last pancake out of the pan and onto a plate, handing it to him as she passed him to the other side of the counter, leaning her elbows on it and looking over at him with a smirk. "You don't need to prove anything. But everyone likes to show off. Secretly, you want to." She challenged with a grin. "Why would I ever have to be interrogated?" She shook her head, looking appalled at the mere idea. She didn't get mixed up in anything like that, why would she need to be interrogated?
Xal pretended to cringe, holding a hand over his heart, "damn, you know exactly where to hit to make it hurt bad," he said, looking at her with an almost believable hurt expression. It cleared up when she kissed his cheek by him rolling his eyes with a smirk. "Thank you, Lyra," he said when she handed him the pancake that he eagerly began to eat. He swallowed what he had in his mouth and gave her a shrug, "not really, I have nothing to prove that I don't already have full confidence in. Showing off would only express a need for other's approval which I do not," he stated simply before he munched on the pancake.
Xal chuckled and soon replied after he finished the food, "I was merely pointing out an observation I had," he responded, "no need to worry."

"Suuure. Of course you don't." Lyra smirked, raising an eyebrow at him as she took a bite of her pancakes. When she swallowed she clicked her tongue, putting a hand over her heart in mock hurt as she looked at him. "No ones approval, not even mine?" She teased in horror. She sniffled jokingly, making her voice all pretend choked up like she was holding back tears. "I mean- I just thought that you cared about me enough." She teased in her dramatic tone.
((I do believe we keep them as close friends... due to various reason... I think))
Xal smirked and shrugged lazily, leaning back against the chair he sat on, looking at her in amusement. "Including yours," he confirmed and sighed a bit dramatically. "Sorry Lyra, but even though I care, I don't need your approval. If that's the case, I'd never get anywhere," he teased her. He rolled his eyes before he glanced at the door when he heard a knock. Seems like they were here. He stood up and glanced at Lyra, "remember, I'll just be in your room if you need anything," he stated, gave her a reassuring smile before he headed up there.

Lyra was humming absently to herself as she headed back into the living room, dance-skipping a few steps. She quickly stopped, however, not wanting to risk spilling the box of pizza in her hand. Balancing it, she used her free hand to push around some of the paper on the table to make space, sketches of plans and brief, short notes of ideas scattering everywhere. But now she had a place for her pizza, so it was alright. "Shoo, move." She used her foot to gently push aside the dog at her feet until he settled down a bit away as she settled into the couch, her legs folded underneath her. She set the pizza down on the table and flipped the lid back, lighting up at the sight of pepperoni.
Lyra pouted when they went for her pizza, lunging forward to grab the box and jumping to her feet to hold it over her head teasingly. But after a moment she reached around to remove a slice of pizza for herself, setting the box on the table for the little ones. She whistled once, the dog jumping up to follow in response, and headed over to Evander. "I'm decent, you? What happened?" She frowned slightly, taking a bit of her pizza as she looked up at him.
"As long as you tell me." She nodded firmly, dropping into the chair across from him and taking another bite of her pizza, setting the box down on the end table next to her. "Of course, what's mine is yours." She waved from him to the food, pushing it toward him slightly in an invitation. "Me? Oh, you know, the usual. Got stabbed, made a new friend, built some things." She shrugged casually, bending over to pet Malik so she wouldn't have to look up at her brother. "Before you ask, I'm just fine, got all patched up at the hospital. Just a little sore."
"I'm fine, promise." She insisted, glancing up at him. She sighed slightly, resting her hand over the top of his and meeting his gaze reluctantly, though earnestly. "Don't worry. I swear, I'm fine. A bit stiff, kind of sore, but I'm in one piece and alive. In just a couple weeks you won't even be able to tell anything happened, except for the scar. And I have more than a few of those already so it's no big deal." She insisted.
Xal woke up immediately after she first moved since it was an instinct but he continued to pretend to sleep, one because he was still tired and two, he had to call someone in private anyway and if she thought he was asleep he wouldn't be bothered for a bit. So he waited till he could hear her downstairs before he got up, stretching and then grabbed his phone to make the call.
It was a bit of time by the time he finished and headed downstairs. He arrived silently at the kitchen and leaned against the wall, watching her with an amused expression but also slightly concerned since she had been severely injured just last night. He was there for a bit and she had yet to notice him causing him to make his first noise in her presence that morning which was a chuckle. He shook his head and went over to take a seat.
