Eric Mesa Having been reading books and consuming narrative fiction for nearly 30 years, I've come to learn that sometimes it's best to save the prequels for after the main book. I'd say that the first released Star Wars (4-6) would not have the same impact if you watched 1-3 first. With Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series, if you read them in chronological order (rather than release order) you spoil a lot of the dramatic tension.

So what does the author recommend and what do readers recommend when it comes to these two books? (No Place Like Oz and Dorothy Must Die)

Avery I haven't read Dorothy Must Die yet, but I've read No Place Like Oz already. I did this because No Place Like Oz was released first.

Makes sense

Mari I read Dorothy Must Die first and then No Place like Oz. I always like to read the main book first to get to know the world and then read the novella if I like the book enough to care about them =D
but I think in this particular case you can read the novella first if you know about the original story: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
