Annie | 2 comments I read this book several years ago, but cannot remember the title or the author's name. The main character is female (can't remember her name). She works at a seasonal restaurant in a small town where it gets very cold in winter time. She and her husband live in a house where certain electrical appliances never work properly, which at the end they learn is due to strange magnetic currents. The female character has a habit of calling the poison control hotline and pretending she has a child who swallowed something and she makes friends with the man from poison control. I remember that she and her husband enjoy naming colors they use to paint rooms in their home. Her husband goes out of town and he cheats on her with an old girlfriend. The woman, to punish him, makes him sleep on the couch from then on out. At a party, she accepts a dare to swallow a random stranger's diamond engagement ring which was dropped into a shot glass. The woman later on lets her keep the ring and they sell it and use the money to open their own diner/restaurant within their home. The main character forgives her husband and they reconcile and go on to have a baby girl they name Gema or Gemma. They have a friend who is hispanic and toward the end of the book, the friend places his hand on their baby's head and says, "Cada cabeza es un mundo. Every mind is a world." Someone please help me find this book. I'd like to read it again. I appreciate your help!

Here is a description:
Self-pity is an unattractive trait and Annie Lee Fleck, the anti-heroine of Wright's ostensibly comic debut novel, indulges in it in spades. She and her husband, Lucas, live contentedly in a remote Colorado ski resort town where she waits tables at one local restaurant and he works as a chef at another. Happiness would be hers but for the fact that she can't get pregnant. Depressed, she takes to overusing emergency 800 numbers, ultimately focusing on a poison control hotline, making up repeated crises for a daughter who doesn't exist.(view spoiler) Following a series of mishaps, Annie Lee winds up swallowing the diamond, (view spoiler)
