I hate it when people say that too. It seems that people think all dystopian books are The Hunger Games rip-offs. Which I don't think is true at all. It's highly annoying. I mean, THG and Divergent both have the districts/factions, but that's all really. And then there's the basic controlling government, person rises up against government plot, but that's what dystopian is.

I think it's better than the hunger games
Soooo annoying when people say this!! Yeah it has similar elements, but every movie has some similarities to another movie!!! Comic book movies (as awesome as they are) all have common themes, but you never hear them say "Oh Spider-man is just another copy of Batman!!" Just because it is dystopian and has a female lead character does not make it a copy!! Errrghh!!! *Rant over* :)
Pfsh, some people really are annoying. If the books are in the same genre there will always be a 99% change of there being some same stuff. You can't keep making up stuff.
it's the same with music, people will say that some artists are ripping of other ones but damn, you can't keep making new stuff because after a while everything will be done already :p
No. Divergent is not. There are so many post-apocalyptic books out now, that saying Divergent is a copy of THG means they allll are.
I read Divergent a week after it was released. I had read THG the week before. I never once thought of THG as I was reading Divergent. They have completely different plots.
So yeah, the main character's a girl, it's about finding out who she is and overthrowing a government, but that doesn't mean Divergent is a copy.
THG has a love triangle and thank the stars that Divergent doesn't. Hey! There's a HUGE difference. There are more YA books out there that involve love triangles than there are that don't, which sets Divergent apart from a lot of books.
There are so many other differences that I could sit here and list until my hair turns gray, but I won't because I've partially made my point. I am so opinionated about this because it really makes me mad when people WHO HAVEN'T EVEN READ DIVERGENT, or who have, just assume it's a copy of THG.
