Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments Wow, guys! This is a lot to sort through. No more, please. You have given me so many to look up that I should be good to go. :) Thank you!

message 402: by Dung (new)

Dung | 31 comments I haven't had a chance to update my reading list in a while, but I just have to say that I love reading the conversations on here... Love this group!

I agree, Dung! Very fun group. ;)

message 404: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Baum (elizabaum) | 176 comments Talia, I'm with you on the modern day stuff. I've only read two so far - Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (which I hated), and a YA one Epic Fail (which I loved). I've got quite a few on my to-read list, but I haven't been able to make myself read any others yet. You'll have to let me know if you like any of the suggestions, and maybe I can try those, too. :-)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Oh, you must read Cat Gardiner's modern day take-offs of Pride and Prejudice. They are so good. And then there is The Muse: A Pride and Prejudice Variation and Boots and Backpacks: Pride & Prejudice on the Appalachian Trail, Roughly. I didn't want to read modern ones until Anji convinced me to read some of these and now I find I really like so many of them. And Undeceived: Pride & Prejudice in the Spy Game is so freaking good!!! Give it a try.

Are the Cat Gardiner ones all stand alone books?

message 407: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Yes, they are and she publishes play lists on Spotify and Pinterest boards to go with each book. I posted reviews on all of them and they were all 5 stars for me.

I added them all to my list. :-)

Thank you for the compliment, Sheila. I'm so glad you decided to try some modern JAFF. There's some really good stuff about, isn't there?

message 410: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Yes, and there are so many I didn't mention.

message 411: by Talia (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I read Elizabeth Bennet's Excellent Adventure: A Pride and Prejudice Vagary. I am a fan of Regina Jeffers but I expected more "adventure" from EB's Excellent Adventure. I would give it three stars for dullness but I went with four because Regina writes so well that it is always a pleasure to read her books. Not much happened in the story to give it the title but it was ok anyway. I think I am used to more than ok from this author. That is a good thing.

message 412: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
That is a surprise, Talia. I've read a handful of her books and you're right, they are generally not dull. But glad it was well-written.

I mean an excellent adventure should be pretty excellent but Elizabeth's was not so much. Lots of potential and I just wanted something more. It is always nice to read one of her books though.

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
LOL! Yeah, that title does raise a certain expectation.

I felt exactly the same when I read it, Talia, and gave it 4 stars instead of 3 for the same reason. Although, to be fair, for an unmarried gentlewoman in that era, her choices would be considered adventurous and definitely peculiar.

Very true but since she is fictional, I say go for it!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Time to update my list again:

51. The Improvement of Her Mind - 5+ stars

52. To Conquer Mr. Darcy - inspired to reread yet again after all the discussion in this group! - still 5+ stars

53. The Rule Of Reason - disappointing alternate version of my #52 - 3.5 stars

54. Ebb and Flow - 5+ stars

55. Mr. Darcy's Kindness: A Pride and Prejudice Novella Variation - 3 stars

56. Darcy and Elizabeth: Timeless: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 3 stars

My reviews are posted for each of them.

Fantastic progress, Debbie!

I enjoy seeing your list and checking out the books I don't recognize.

message 419: by Talia (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments Two more books read:

Mr. Darcy to the Rescue: A Pride and Prejudice Variation: I love this book. I want to read everything else by this author now.

Oxford Cottage: A Pride and Prejudice Variation: An interesting idea written by an author that writes sweet JAFF. Not a lot of angst but a happy book. Worth the time but maybe it won't be so memorable.

message 420: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Yay for two more, Talia.

Glad they were two more.

Good books, Talia. Victoria Kinkaid does write some good ones. Check out Pride and Proposals. Bingley pursues Elizabeth rather than Jane in that one!

Victoria Kincaid has a new book coming out very soon, Talia, from what I've read on her blog and Facebook. More JAFF loveliness to enjoy!

message 424: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Anji-on a totally unrelated matter...saw on Claudine's blog that you intend to listen to North & South as an audiobook read by Julia S. Would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on her narration.
Apologies for 'hijacking' a JAFF site with an unrelated comment.

Wait! I have read it. I can't remember it but I said I loved it. I am pretty sure it was on my kindle so those books kind of blend together. I am going to go buy a hard copy of it to reread.

message 429: by Talia (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I read two books today. Compromised! - A Pride & Prejudice Variation: I read this on kindle and then bought it as a hard copy as well because I loved it. There were so many things to like. Lots of surprises.

When Mary Met the Colonel: A Pride and Prejudice Novella: I like Mary Bennett stories and Col Fitzwilliam stories as well so this was a winner from the start. I liked the book but as usual with a short book, it left me wanting more. I don't mind waiting the extra time it takes to flush out a good story to its full potential. It is worth doing. Good read but disappointing, too. Could have been great.

message 430: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Wow, 2 books in one day - a luxury. I sometimes can do that but not often. I am reading A Death at Rosings: A Pride & Prejudice Variation - about 1/2 way done.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am about 85% done so will probably post my review tomorrow. Yes, Anne has her own little ways and takes a fancy to some of the Bennet girls, (as a mentor - imagine that).

message 439: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (lumee23) | 22 comments A brief update:

19. A Pride and Prejudice: A Royal Disposition - 3.5 Stars - I *really* had a hard time moving forward with the idea that Elizabeth would break an engagement with Darcy because of Lady Catherine's "Polluted Shades" speech. The writing felt a bit off (mostly in the beginning) as well. Once I opted to just roll with it the book was more enjoyable.
20. George Knightley, Esquire: Charity Envieth Not (re-read) - 4.5 Stars - Posting my thoughts on the group read forum throughout the month :)
21. George Knightley, Esquire: Lend Me Leave (re-read) - 5 Stars - Same as above.

Currently reading Entanglements of Honor: A Pride & Prejudice Variation and will probably read Mr. Darcy's Kindness: A Pride and Prejudice Novella Variation next.

Oh boy, I have P&P: A Royal Disposition and was hoping it would be exciting. Oh well.

And I really need to get to Longbourn Will. Another high rating. :)
