Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I agree with you, Talia. Darcy and Fitzwilliam: A Tale of a Gentleman and an Officer is the best of that trilogy. I do enjoy that author's sense of humor.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments FYI... Mr. Bennet's library was temporarily found in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, USA this Sunday, when Sheila and I met face-to-face for the first time! My husband and I stopped on our way back to Myrtle Beach from the Poconos. We had a delightful visit talking about how much we love this GR group as well as all the books we've been reading recently. Wish we could've hung out longer!

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments That's terrific Debbie! So glad you ladies enjoyed yourselves!

Ceri | 224 comments It's so great that you managed to meet!

message 1055: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Wow, Debbie. You never let down with your pace. I have not been reading as much lately as life has butted into my time for reading. Good job!

message 1056: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments You've had far more important things going on than reading, Sheila! You'll get back into the reading groove soon, I'm sure.

message 1057: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Debbie and Sheila-isn't of wonderful that this group had brought together two like minded people like yourselves !
I really hope ye both had a lovely time and that plans are afoot to meet again. Where books can lead us,nobody knows!

message 1058: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Oh, Mary, if you are ever nearby....please join us. We both said how we love this community - all so sweet and supportive and caring. Now if we could just sit and have a cup of tea together. Loverly.

message 1059: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments Absolutely ladies... I'd love to be with you all!!

message 1060: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Please believe me that had I known ye were meeting,I would have sat down, made myself a cuppa and telepathically joined ye in the chat!!!!!

message 1061: by Susan (new)

Susan (vesper1931) Well, I am finally there, of the over 300 hundred books I have read this year I have reached the target to be allowed into Mr. Bennet's library. Looking forward to meeting the occupants there, and hope to spend my time looking for all the hidden fan fiction that I have yet to read.

message 1062: by Sheila (last edited Jun 17, 2016 06:15AM) (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Welcome. There's room by the window as Debbie and I enjoy the morning breeze and the view on this sunny day. I have not seen that anyone else joined us...but maybe some walked in while we were chatting. Congratulations. 300 - amazing. I will probably get to a little over 200 for the year but never 300 in one year. That's great.

message 1063: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Oh, we're so happy to have you here with us, Susan! Pull up one of these cushy leather chairs and we'll ring for tea! I see the books on your shelves include a number of unpublished JAFF selections I hadn't seen. I'll have to check out some of those puppies!

message 1064: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Susan congrats!!! You must be chuffed!!
Great company awaits you in Mr Bennet's library as both Sheila and Debbie will lay out the red carpet to welcome you!! Enjoy the sheer pleasure of just being there among like minded individuals!! Oh! To be a fly on the wall!!

message 1065: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) Claudine wrote: "Absolutely ladies... I'd love to be with you all!!"

Me, too. I had a chance to meet one of my friends on A Happy Assembly a couple of years ago when she came to Minneapolis for the JASNA annual meeting. It was great fun.

message 1066: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) Only 32 books so far this year. I am way behind. But, I retired last week so hope to catch up quickly.

One problem with getting old: I am just struggling to keep track of what I have read, even using Goodreads. I just have to take better care to fully record books.

message 1067: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments May I wish you a long, happy, healthy and indeed fun filled retirement,Barb.

Yay for you, Barb! Congrats on your retirement. LOL, keeping track of books read can be such a challenge.

I think that's neat that Shelia and Debbie got to meet up in RL especially when you don't live close. Must have been fun times with two such booklovers getting together. ;)

Goodreads keeps track of what you read as part of your yearly challenge. If you look at the right hand column of the main page and scroll down to the orange challenge icon where it lists how many of your challenge you have read and the percentage of that goal you may click on the icon tracker and it brings up all the books and you go there and by moving your courser over the book icons the title comes up and you can also click on the bottom right of that display to bring up more books.

And congratulations on your retirement. I am only retired 3.5 years myself.

Oh, you may have felt your ears buzzing last Sunday, since we were talking about you all as well as books and authors! It was a delightful hour, and we agreed that we must do it again.

message 1075: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments I think it's a great idea for the two of you to meet again. If it gladdened your hearts and put a smile on your faces, then a few hours on a train/ in s plane is a small price to pay!!!

message 1076: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Oh, it was far more convenient than that. For the past 3 years in June, my husband and I have been driving to Pennsylvania from South Carolina and back, visiting friends in the areas we lived in until we retired. Since one of our oldest, dearest friends lives in East Stroudsburg, PA, it was easy to make a slight detour through Hellertown, where Sheila lives. Usually it's my husband who's the extrovert, but I felt like she and I connected immediately. We were chatting away like old friends in no time!

message 1077: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Believe it or not,but yes,I do believe that you both started chatting like old friends who, perhaps, hadn't seen each other in quite a while. Any person reading the comments you make to each other can sense the warm relationship you share....and that was before meeting face to face!! This group is very welcoming to all members and is very evident in what is said and,of course, sometimes, unsaid.

message 1078: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Well, my dear husband has playing golf courses in Scotland and Ireland on his bucket list, so we may drop in on you sometime, Mary. I'm sure it would be a similar experience for me... and hopefully for you!

message 1079: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments What a delightful thought,Debbie and such a nice thing to say!!

message 1080: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am smiling so much my cheeks hurt. If only we could have pulled all of you into our little time together. And I must say Debbie's husband, Kurt, was charming and not at all pushing to get out of there even tho' they had a long trip home ahead of them.

I did learn subsequently that Debbie has a lovely trained voice and that she and her husband have performed for many years in our state and now in other areas. (Debbie, I hope I am not embarrassing you.) We just don't know the talents of our friends here although we all share this interest.

I love that Claudine, and now Debbie, and I have met up. Sheryl and I are in the planning stages of a meeting, too. Anyone else live in NJ/PA area?

message 1081: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments That sounds great. Debbie Fortin and I are trying to meet soon too...

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Sheila wrote: " (Debbie, I hope I am not embarrassing you.)"

I'm too old to get embarrassed by much of anything anymore, Sheila! LOL.

message 1083: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments You guys have to place an empty cup on the table to remind yourselves of all the absent book friends that would love their share of the conversation and are with you in spirit,if not in body!!

message 1084: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments That sounds like a good idea, Mary, but know that we did speak of how we love this entire community. You all were not forgotten.

message 1086: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments My salute to your leadership in forging ahead. Well done as always, Debbie.

message 1087: by Talia (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I read two books today and one that I just can't finish.

Darcy's Journey: I loved this book.

Blood Persuasion: I got this book for $0.70 at a local bookstore in clearance. What a find! It was similar to Jane Bites Back for the storyline except it took place in JA's time. I got a good deal!

Jane Austen Lives Again: This is the one I can't finish and I am more than halfway through. At first, I thought the book was clever but I just can't read it. It is too dull for me.

message 1088: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 224 comments Aw, it's such a shame when you are reading a book you can't enjoy, Talia. Some books just don't click with the reader. I enjoyed that book but everybody is different. Are you going to push through and finish it or give it up as a bad job?

message 1089: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Oh my goodness! You gals are really getting through the books. And might I say that it is mucho appreciated that you are putting ratings and final thoughts with them so we can all see at a glance what you thought of the books to help us choose and prioritize. :)

No, it is too dull. Every page is drudgery.

message 1091: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 224 comments If that's the way you feel you should definitely give it up as incompatible. I read a book a few years ago that had good reviews, the author's style was good but I just couldn't summon up any enthusiasm to continue reading it. I found myself making excuses not to read which is unheard of for me. It was such a relief to make the conscious decision not to try to finish it and get back to reading books that made me want to read on!

I used to feel guilty about not finishing the book but not any more. Why suffer through? If it isn't for me at more than halfway, it probably won't start. I am glad that you do this too. It really does slow down your reading. I find that I now avoid my kindle. I need to get a page turner on there.

message 1093: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 224 comments Definitely - we will never get to read all the books we would like to get through, no sense in wasting our reading time with things we're not enjoying. Reading should be a joy, not a chore :)

message 1094: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I just finished another unpublished book on AHA:
His Choice of a Wife by Dolly http://meryton.com/aha/index.php?show...
Blurb: A what-if variation that imagines how P&P would proceed after Hunsford if Darcy quickly realized that his behavior needed correcting, and if Elizabeth realized much sooner that Darcy has some redeeming qualities after all. More importantly, what if Darcy and the Colonel were still visiting with Mrs. Collins when Elizabeth returns after having read Darcy’s letter?

And if not able to please himself in the arrangement, he has at least great pleasure in the power of choice. I do not know any body who seems more to enjoy the power of doing what he likes than Mr. Darcy. P&P Vol. 2 Ch. 10
If Mr. Darcy is neither by honor nor inclination confined to his cousin, why is not he to make another choice? And if I am that choice, why may I not accept him? P&P Vol. 3 Ch. 14

Tears...intense situations...more depth of emotions than in some JAFF.

This was read over 3 days as it is over 200 pages long. Very well written.

Barb (barblibrarian1) Very strange thing. I just finished reviewing Forced to Marry Mr. Darcy A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Mary Weston and I returned it on Kindle Unlimited at Amazon. I went back to check something and the book is gone. Interesting.
