That is good and I trust you, Sheila. Maybe I can drag my husband to see it with me.

It's probably not going to be until late this year guys. :( I'm currently proving myself a liar and working on a secondary character novel.

Now, that would be fun. I could totally hack the skeevy parts if I had my Janeite girlfriends with me. :)

It's your muse, Pamela. We will blame her. She's the one that keeps pushing other characters on you that need to go first. :)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments No pressure Pamela.

We will gladly read whatever JAFF you write...

Erika (eureeka75) | 167 comments Pamela, I agree with Sophia and Claudine!! I will read whatever you put out!!!

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Ditto - head here!

message 59: by Talia (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I finished The Last Waltz: . . . another pride and prejudice journey of love and loved it. It was a good thing I was a bit under the weather yesterday so I could keep reading.

message 60: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Sorry to hear you weren't feeling up to snuff, Talia. But yes, books are a good comfort when you're sick. The Last Waltz is getting some good reviews. I look forward to it.

message 61: by Anji (new)

Anji | 283 comments Talia, I read The Last Waltz while I was ill, too, and really enjoyed it.

I'm really ambivalent about P&P&Z, though. Though I like a bit of paranormal with my JAFF, I'm not fond of the whole 'undead' stuff such as vampires and zombies. Though if Aidan Turner was to play a vampire Darcy (he was wonderful as vampire Mitchell in Being Human) I could be persuaded to change my mind! I think Like Sheila, I'd have to read the book first and now I've discovered there's a prequel and sequel, too.

On a similar note, has anyone read Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters? I bought a copy really cheaply at a charity shop but haven't been able to bring myself to open it yet.

message 62: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments The main book - the middle of the 3 is about 90% Jane Austen's words. After reading all three I am of the opinion that the 3rd one is the best of the lot and that the other two are not really necessary to the enjoyment of the film. However, I enjoyed the last book and hope it is part of the film adaptation.

message 63: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments I've asked around Sheila and though I don't know for sure, I think the third would be part of a movie sequel... $$$!

message 64: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I could always wait for it to hit TV screens.

message 65: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments I want to see it right away... Do you mean the movie coming in February?

message 66: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am going to see it...just some humor directed at Hollywood's need to exploit our sensibilities with having to add a sequel.

message 67: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments I know... But, since it's P&P&Zombies, they can have my money twice if they do it well!!

Also, is "Longbourn" by Jo Baker being turned into a movie?

message 68: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments That I don't know...anyone else???

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Just finishing the Prosecution of Darcy's Cousin - so angst filled. I did have some correct suspicions but not giving any SPOILERS here. Will add my review before sleep.

message 71: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments Glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was so well done and quite original. Isn't little Bennet adorable?

message 76: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments FEBRUARY 7, 2013: Random House Studios and Focus Features have acquired feature film rights to Jo Baker’s new novel “Longbourn,” based on the servant characters in Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.”

Under the deal, Random House Studios and Focus will co-finance and produce the adaptation.

message 77: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments Thanks!! Did you read this book?

message 78: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments The kindle version costs $11.99 and no, i haven't read it. It has over 800 reviews on Amazon with an average of 4 stars.

message 79: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) I was so turned off by the Zombie fighting Bennet sisters, I just couldn't go on....lol Just not my cup of tea. And, I have determined that I am also over any of the JAFF that turns Darcy into an animal - platypus, dragon, werewolf, etc.

I love to see how creative the authors can get, however. Sometimes they only change one little thing near the beginning and it changes everything.

message 80: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Yes, I suppose that does change a lot of the story by necessity when the paranormal is brought in. Some I like, but some were merely a curiosity.

Darcy was a dragon? Which book? :)

A Touch of Night I think (Dragon Darcy). Plus he was a dragon in one of Enid Wilson's short stories.

message 82: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Thanks, Ceri! I'll have to check that out. Just the idea has me curious, but I do love dragons so this might be fun.

message 83: by Erika (new)

Erika (eureeka75) | 167 comments I enjoyed A Touch of Night. Yes Darcy as a dragon was weird but entertaining once I got beyond my own weirdness.

message 84: by Anji (new)

Anji | 283 comments I'll have to look that dragon version up. I'm a huge fan of Ann McCaffrey's Pern series (sci-fi not JAFF) so anything with sympathetically portrayed dragons will always go down well with me.

message 85: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments My daughter loves Ann McCaffrey's book as well as Piers Anthony and other in that genre

message 86: by Barb (last edited Jan 08, 2016 01:49PM) (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) To be honest, I really did love Touch of Night. Darcy was a very sweet dragon.

I am rereading An Assembly Such as This by Pamela Aidan. I can still count books I reread, can't I? I haven't read this since it was first published, and realized I didn't own a copy of it, so I bought it for my kindle. It really is excellent. It is not a variation, it is simply P&P from Darcy's perspective. But, it is so well written and witty.

It really portrays Darcy as a man's man, who is comfortable in the cigar/brandy/billiards world, but very uncomfortable with women. I find this to be so realistic for the era, given he was probably sent away to a boarding school at 7 or 8 years of age and spent most of his life surrounded by boys and men.

I just read a section I thought was really brilliant. Darcy is being teased by the other men about hearing he has an amazing dog that would retrieve his shot bird, fetch fire wood, then cook it in the Italian style. Darcy tells them the dog isn't really able to cook in the Italian style, but he can understand the conclusion since his dog puts so much garlic in everything. LOL

If you haven't read it, it is so revealing of Darcy's infatuation with Elizabeth and how it came about. Fun read.

message 87: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) I just thought of something. I own Touch of Night on my kindle. If anyone else has a kindle or a kindle app and would like to read it, I would lend it to you. And, before anyone buys a kindle copy of a title, check with me to see if I own it and I could lend it, unless I am reading it myself.

message 88: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments If you like Aidan's Darcy you MUST read Darcy's Tale, Volume I: Into Hertfordshire and the 2 sequels - a real man telling it from Darcy's POV. I have read four authors telling it from Darcy's POV and Stanley's is the best by far.

Yes, I read those, too! They were wonderful. Have to agree they are definitely some of the best Darcy point of view books.

Just hadn't read Aidan in so many years....

message 90: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments Barbara, thanks for the offer of the loans. I am also willing to lend titles to people, as I have many to lend. And yes, Sheila is right on... Stanley Hurd's books are some of the best!! He's a magnificent writer... Maybe I'll post a review of his series on my blog soon. I wrote it a while back and I tell everyone about his books!! When you read them, we must hear your feedback...

message 91: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Yes, Barbara! Re-reads definitely count. Pamela Aiden's trilogy was the first JAFF I ever read and I was enthralled to be getting Darcy's side of things. I still need to try the Stanley Hurd trio that is a favorite of many.

Good to know Darcy as a dragon is a sweet story. I can't borrow it now b/c I have a stack of reviews to get through, but I might take you up on it later.

I can loan my Kindle copies, too, if anyone is interested including the first George Knightley book we are doing for the March read. Good idea to share about this, Barbara.

message 92: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I never posted a review of the Aidan books so I will have to re-read them to do so. I have them in paperback...one of these days I will do so.

message 93: by Dung (new)

Dung | 31 comments Hello everyone, I was torn between which reading challenge to participate in this year... Henry Crawford Level or Mr. Bennet. It seems a bit lonely over on Henry Crawford's level and with some encouragement from Claudine, I decided to participate in this level with all of you. It seem this level is where all the fun discussions are happening. :)

I'm four P&P books into the year already...

I just finished reading Stan Hurd's trilogy and it's fantastic. I highly recommend it. I never heard of Darcy being a dragon before, but it sounds interesting.

message 94: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
Oh, poor, Dung!

Yes, you can hang out on any level you want even if you picked a different one for a challenge level. Do join in!

And that is fantastic that you have four read already and look, another high recommendation for Stan Hurd's books. :)

message 95: by Anji (new)

Anji | 283 comments Pamela Aiden's books were my first JAFF, too and I loved them but Stanley Hurd's trilogy was even better, I think.

I wish we UK readers could loan and borrow Kindle books to/from each other. Sheila, I know you've tried to lend to me in the past but until Amazon gets it's *%#! In gear over this side of the pond, it's not going to happen. Even then, loans may not be able to cross borders. After all, we can't even buy Kindle books from overseas stores right now. The UK only got Kindle Unlimited in the last year or so compared with the US, so we're definitely behind the times. Haven't gone down that route myself as I want to keep the books I spend money on and with KU, you lose them if you stop paying the subscription.

I feel badly for those using the other Amazon affiliates. I get not letting stuff cross borders (mostly), but I don't get why each Amazon can't have the same programs like the loaning books, etc. Maybe someday, Anji.

I may be totally wrong on this, but I am pretty sure Amazon would rather have one set of rules world-wide. I think it is the publishers that put the restrictions on crossing borders. They are all still a little bit nervous about ebooks in general, and specifically anything that doesn't involve paying money to use it.

message 98: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 1167 comments Mod
That does make sense, Barb.

message 99: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 224 comments I think there are different copyright laws in different countries so that's why you can only buy them in your country, although if that is true I'm not sure why some countries without a kindle store can buy from the US store.

It's such a shame that the UK kindle store doesn't have the features of the US one; it would be nice if people could lend books, but I'd also like to be able to gift books, as I could do more giveaways on my blog. A physical book is more expensive to give away.

message 100: by Susan (new)

Susan (vesper1931) Well I am a tenth of the way towards the challenge and I have yet to read a Darcy and Elizabeth story. I think my next may be another Mary story or a Colonel Fitzwilliam one. I am open to suggestions.
