Anji | 283 comments @Eliza - I'm listening to Rumours and Recklessness on my commutes at the moment. Stevie Zimmerman is one of the really good JAFF narrators. I've also got all of Abigail Reynolds' audios and most were narrated by either Pearl Hewitt or Elizabeth Klett (both excellent, imo). Is the book with the awful narrator Mr. Darcy's Undoing, by any chance? I didn't like her either.

@Claudine - I've got two of Stephanie Barron's books on audio, narrated by Kate Reading, but can't see any more JAFF from her on Audible UK. Are they done by someone else in the US? I know that happens sometimes.

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments @Anji...

Kate narrates Jane and His Lordship's Legacy, Jane and the Ghosts of Netley, Jane and the Prisoner of the Wool House, Jane and the Stillroom Maid, Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrove Manor, besides the two others. If I see more, I'll let you know.

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments My weekend books:

A Stitch of Life: Loved how this opens. If you like this author, you will like the book.

Darcy's Beloved Cousin: My love for the Colonel was evident. I got teary! I a such a pushover. One note, this was like watching Jerry Springer. Out of control!

Darcy and Elizabeth - A Promise Kept: I wish the author had given us more of what made her former employer "evil." We really never get the whole story. I love the author so maybe I need to read it again. Usually, as in the Count of her previous book, there was no need to explain.

On the Road to Ramsgate: This was my favorite, besides rereading Emma-still in progress, of the weekend. It was terrific with 13 deaths.

I'd heard that there were differences between what books are available on Audible.com and Audible UK. Now I know it for sure. Here in the UK, the only two of Stephanie Barron's books available in that series are Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas and Jane and the Waterloo Map. I'll keep checking though, as I'm always on the lookout for new JAFF to listen to on my commutes.

Nissa | Of Pens and Pages Book Blog (nissareads) | 9 comments I'm currently reading Capturing Miss Bennet's Heart and hmmmm. I'm trying my best to like it but I don't know...

I really want to read The Windmills of Their Minds but I can't seem to find it on AHA? I found Ayden's other works, but not this one.

message 709: by Erika (new)

Erika (eureeka75) | 167 comments Nissa this one has been removed. I had word from Lory Lilian that Ayden was re-working it so removed the original version. But I'm not sure when that was and if she is ever getting back to it. I had been trying to search it out about a month and half ago.

Ceri | 224 comments She's been posting one on A Happy Assembly for the past couple of years I think, set in WWII, so I assumed that would be her next. Isn't there also talk of a third Imperative book?

Oh, the 3rd Imperative rings a bell which means I have probably asked this already! Thank you.

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I just discovered and read the sample of Mrs. Bennet's Sentiments: Pride and Prejudice and Perseverance. I had to order it because "I understand." I came across it on Amazon and hadn't heard of it before so I wanted to share it here. Did anyone read it yet? My copy comes on Thursday May 5th so I will read it that weekend.

I hadn't heard of that other one.

I will be excited if LW kicks out a third Imperative. :)

Have you read Keeping Calm which is very long and about WWII - starts pre-war? I have not finished it but I have liked it and I have read a number of her other books.

I see that the last new portion of the story was put up in 2014. Was that the end or is it still a WIP?

message 724: by Claudine (new)

Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813 | 224 comments Yes, LINDA is writing "Keeping Calm," and an Imperative 3 will be in the works, but it's a long-range goal, I believe. KC is a long book. Linda's wonderful!

Sorry, somehow missed this a few days ago.

I'm really enjoying my Rumours and Recklessness reread during my commutes. So funny that we both ended up doing so at the same time! I managed to find the one with the narrator I didn't care for it, and it was Pearl Hewitt on What Would Mr. Darcy Do. I wasn't fond of her male voices. But, admittedly, I can be a bit of a snob in that regard. :-)

I am going with Undercover. This weekend is Mrs Bennet's Sentiments which I can not wait to read too.

Talia, at what point will the words "obstinate, headstrong girl" be addressed towards your daughter, do you think? Or if she does something you don't approve of then it could be "I am most seriously displeased!"

She is an interesting mix of Elizabeth and Jane. She is obstinate to Dad but sweet tempered like Jane to me. :)!

Anji | 283 comments I've just tucked another one under my belt.

30. My Dear Cassandra edited, selected and introductions by Penelope Hughes-Hallett.

This is the most concentrated reading of Jane Austen's surviving letters that I've done. It's been absolutely fascinating to have even such a small insight into her everyday life.

Yes, it is lovely isn't it Ceri? I love the illustrations that Penelope Hughes-Hallet chose too. I was reading the section of letters written from Southampton when we had a friend from Southampton visiting. So I was showing the illustrations to her and discussing the changes in the skyline and the city in general since Regency times. We were even mooching around on Google street view and bemoaning the fact that a lot of the old buildings and city walls no longer exist.

I believe the book is no longer in print but I was lucky enough to pick up my copy fairly recently at a second hand bookshop near one of the pharmacies I work at fairly regularly.

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments Mrs. Bennet's Sentiments: Pride and Prejudice and Perseverance: I loved this version of Mrs Bennet. I have a soft spot for her and her nerves. Mrs Bennet has a lot to put her nerves on edge having to marry off 5 girls with little dowry and we all know Mr Bennett prefers to close the door to his study to crack open a book than to do much of anything useful. No wonder Mrs Bennet is overcome with nerves.

The author of this book did a fantastic job of showing how little respect Mrs Bennet receives. It is so refreshing. I think anyone who is in a committed relationship can understand her frustrations. Her kindness and wisdom are readily apparent to all but her own family members. Mrs Bennet follows the beat of her own drum in the end reminding us all to be true to ourselves.

I wanted to kiss the book when done.

$10 for a Kindle book...it must be a very very good and long book for me to pay that.

message 746: by Talia (last edited Apr 30, 2016 08:54PM) (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I also read Promises: This is one of the Darcy meets Elizabeth as a child stories. I usually am turned off by these because they kind of creep me out with the age difference. Ms Sotis did it justice though as Darcy found her delightful and unique but in a way that children do with each other without any sexual overtones. Mr Darcy, the father, is friends with Mr Bennet which is always nice. I read this before Mrs Bennet's Sentiments and remember thinking how much I liked it. But then MBS was read and all thoughts of other books went out of my head.

A Royal Bennet: I read this one after MBS. Mrs Bennet is a nutter in this book in stark contrast to the previous one but I love this author so I knew what to expect. One of my favorite parts of the story comes by way of a tri-colored Collie and since we have a tri-colored Collie, named Nemorino, we all know that I loved this book. A lower body count than usual something like 7?! Maybe? I lost count.

Yes, I did start Undercover and only got through the first chapter before Passover started again. I don't use my kindle on holidays so I switched to hardcopies. Hoping to read Undercover this week. My kindle reading has to fit into all the things we do during the week and homeschooling. So far, it is very enjoyable. Love the genre.

I'm the same way. I do as much as my reading as possible with Kindle Unlimited, freebies, and discounts when I can find them. I have a monthly budget for the rest, and I'm way over until a couple of weeks from now. But if I know it's a good book, I'll splurge!
