Ruby (herzschlag) | 2 comments Hey everybody,

I have been a Goodreads librarian for several years now. I'm not super active, but I do change things that I notice are wrong and I make sure that the book I am reading always has the correct details. Anyway, a few weeks ago I added a new edition to The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. I couldn't find it again among the masses of editions, but I figured that was my problem and I'd look again later (haven't done that yet, though).

But today I tried to added a new edition to Iris Murdoch's The Unicorn. It's possible to create a new edition, but whenever I combine that new edition with all the others, it gets lost and it isn't there among the others. Is there something wrong with Goodreads or am I doing something wrong?

Another point of possible importance: I couldn't add the ISBN of Steinbeck (because it was before ISBN) or Murdoch (because there was already another edition with the same ISBN) so they cannot be traced that easily.

Thank you!

Ruby

p.s. I always have to combine when I add a new edition, i.e. it exists as a separate book first, I never knew whether that was right either...

Renske | 12344 comments Adding a new edition always create a separate edition that need to be manually combined with the other editions, so you are not doing something wrong there.

As librarian you can look in your list of librarian edits to find a book you have added/edited.

Here is your edition of The Unicorn https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I combined it with the other editions.
If you add an alternate cover edition it is useful to add also a librarian note, as I have done for this edition.

And this is your edition of The Grapes of Wrath https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Also combined with other editions.

Perhaps you were looking in the list of editions without first combining the new edition?

Ruby (herzschlag) | 2 comments Thank you for you help!

So did you combine them for me? Because I actually did that and I got the message that they were succesfully combined. Moreover, I also tried to combine again after I couldn't find them in the list of editions and both editions were not listed as separate, nor as combined. I've been doing this for over four years, and I'm not doing anything different.
