I am slowly learning things. One thing I do is type a request for how to do something into Google, & then write the instructions down so I can refer to them while doing the task. I've also found the actual website allows more scope than the phone app, but as my son killed my computer, I am making do. I use the app most of the time, but go to the website for certain actions. I know putting my "avatar" up was easy, think there was a choice for choosing/importing a pic when I set up my profile. I did it while I was on major painkillers in the hospital & do not remember much.

The italics is easy - when you quote someone at the end of the quote put <*/i> without the asterisk. Your own text should then be in regular font.I'll just look up & see if GR has instructions somewhere about how you add photos. Or someone who is good at this stuff is welcome to chime in! :)
When I pull up my profile, a rectangular box with edit photo comes up. I imagine clicking on that will lead to the steps required.

You need to make sure that you click on "reply" and then type your comment on a new line and AFTER the html code < / i >

I use the App on my iPad - no problems. Like HJ says, MaryC, I would make sure you have left a space before typing your own response.

See message 31. :)
I'll be quite happy to join in with reading Simon the Coldheart as well. Just say when. I was delighted last Christmas to be given three Heyer mysteries which are first editions by my brother for my birthday. They're very special to me.
I'm only new to this site and group and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. When I reply to someone it doesn't seem to show up under the original message.

Which mysteries were you given?
I had decided not to collect the mysteries as my GH loving friend thought she had the complete collection (other than Penhallow) but she is missing a couple of the others. Of course once I decided to collect them they disappeared from all the op & the dump shop. I have got Penhallow though, which I thought might be hard to find.
I have No Wind of Blame, They Found Him Dead and Merely Murder in the first editions. Then I have Behold Here's Poison,Detection Unlimited and Footsteps In The Dark in ordinary editions. Only recently started reading the mysteries. I also have a couple of biographies.

When I reply to someone it doesn't seem to show up under the original message."Teresa -- assuming you're using a computer (I think it's different on mobile devices but I don't know), click on the word "reply" at the bottom right of the post you want to respond to. A quotation of the beginning of the post will be at the top of the comment box, and you start typing underneath it. When you press "Post" the comment will appear as the last thing on the page i.e. not necessarily underneath the post you're replying to. I know that this one won't, for example, because I can see that there are two other posts already there.
MaryC wrote: "I'm agreeable, but I don't know how! (You may have noticed that, when I reply the way I'm doing now, everything shows up in the same typeface. I don't know what everyone else is doing to italicize one part but not the other.)

You have to close the italics HTML mark at the end of your quote. Type a < then a / and then an i and then close it with another bracket >
<This is an Italic<Let's see if my "ampersand followed by gt or lt (greater than or less than) worked to display instead of make italic.
Nope. <<'&' (ampersand) becomes &
'"' (double quote) becomes " when ENT_NOQUOTES is not set.
"'" (single quote) becomes ' only when ENT_QUOTES is set.
'<' (less than) becomes <
'>' (greater than) becomes >
Hi Howard I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do hereIf it's italics
<*i> your text <*/i> but without the asterisk
will get you your text
