Sarah Hume I ha to read this book for another book club I'm with. I decided to watch the movie too. I chose the one from 2009. A lot of thing are the same but a lot is different. Take for example the way Sybil Vane dies. In the book the time line is way longer then the movie. Things like that. But it's a good comparison.

I still need to watch the movie, but I did not care for the book much... I love the idea behind it well enough, but I found it really boring and was skimming the pages quite a bit. I for sure want to see the movie esp, esp since Ben Barnes is in it! :)

Sarah Hume It took me a bit to get I to the book. The last 100 pages were the best. That is what the movie is mostly based on. I gave the both the book and the movie 2.5.

I saw the preview for the book and it looked very different than the version I read. He seemed like he was much more outgoing and slept around more than the book talked about. Did you read the original version? I almost wonder if there is like an updates version that I could try to re-read and enjoy more..... hmmmmm

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I saw the 2009 one with Ben Barnes. It was surprisingly good.

Did you read it as well? I have plans to watch the movie, but it is not on Netflix so I have to actually "try" to find it...ugh!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I have but it was a looong time ago during my horror genre kick.

haha Nice! I almost wish I would not have read the book...since it makes me a lot less interested to see the movie than when I first heard about the story in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.... I think it's just the writing style that puts me to sleep!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments Well, the movie isn't slow at all... at least the Ben Barnes one. :)

Good to know! That is the one I plan to watch. That way even if I don't love the movie, I get to see Ben Barnes and that is always amazing! :D

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments YES! XD Prince Caspian!

MMMMHMMMMM!! You said it!!! Although, William Mosley is still first in my book! ;)

Sarah Hume I read the original and I agree that he is much more outgoing in the movie. (2009 one). The book took me a bit to get into but also someone told me what happens at the end. It made me read faster so I could see what them meant.

I knew the ending thanks to LXG, so I really did not need to read the book much, since I already had an idea as to what was going to happen. All in all, the book was BLAH, but hopefully once I track the movie down it will make up for it! :)

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I don't mind being spoiled. I'm more interested to see how they'll get there in the movie. :)

Sarah Hume I watched the movie on YouTube. It was ok quality. Did the trick.

OOOH!! Thanks!! I will check there to see if I can find it as well. When Netflix does not have things I kind of give up...haha

I found a version of it on Youtube, but it is the older version.... Since I did not like the book much, I think I want to see the Ben Barnes version so even if I don't like the movie at least I get to see him for a few hours! ;)

Louisa Knight | 156 comments I thought the story line was pretty good, but then I watched the film with my parents... I was kinda awkward but oh well!

Eeek! Yeah....from what I have heard(still trying to track down the Ben Barnes version) it is a little racy! Not one I would want to watch with parents or in mixed company at all!! haha

Louisa Knight | 156 comments Haha It was extremely awkward, we were all sitting there like well... This isn't what we expected!

Sophie (sophie_loves_books) | 7 comments I saw the film with my parents too... They changed the channel :P

Oh goodness!! haha They need warnings not just for content on movies, but also warnings about who you should NOT watch them with!!!

Louisa Knight | 156 comments Hahaha, my mum recorded it thinking that it was going to be a good story for the family to watch, she thought wrong!

Justin (justinbienvenue) I actually wrote my take on this classic tale in my book, The Macabre Masterpiece. I didn't put a spin on it just told it as Oscar Wilde originally had only I do it in poetry form.

Dawn Napier (rosered97) | 21 comments I haven't seen any of the movies yet--unless you count The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, lol. But I read the book and it was interesting. Bit too chatty. I kept yelling at the page, "Shut up, nobody cares what you think!" The stuff being said was probably fascinating and dangerous and daring back in the day, but hedonism isn't the pearl-clutcher it used to be.
