RULES/HOW THIS WORKS
I always have to pay for shipping, and the thing is that I pay less (even paying for shipping) than buying on the bookstore or Book Depository! (there are rare exceptions)
I think I am just very bizarre... I prefer to pay more for a book than the shipping because at least I am paying for something I am receiving if that makes sense? Like with shipping I am not receiving anything that way lol
the only way I pay shipping is on Amazon when the book is $0.01

I decided to just go through Barnes & Noble. They have a membership program where you pay $25 a year and you get free shipping no matter how much your order is and you get it within 3-5 days.
I wonder if our store has that benefit with the card... lol
Also just an update: I think we are done! Everyone has either sent or notified me that they will be late!!

I'm glad to hear that, Mel! ♥
Just a warning about thriftbooks - I buy most of my books for my college literature classes there, and "like new" tends to not be gift quality. It's usually more along the lines of "very good" or even just "good," although I don't mind because they're for class. Mel, how many total participants are there? I'm just curious since you said that you're waiting on 12.
Thanks!
I've seen people do thrift book hauls and are always disappointed so I've been hesitant!
There are 48 participants which is a lot more than I expected! I'm only waiting on about 6 now and they have all contacted me about when the gift will be sent.

Mel wrote: "I've seen people do thrift book hauls and are always disappointed so I've been hesitant!"Really? Well, now I'm worried :/ I order quite a few books from thriftbook.
Mostly it's an edition thing. One girl ordered a book in "like new" hardcover and got a really beat up paperback ARC. And they often send old library copies :/ I just worry
I'm a fan of Thriftbooks mainly because I'm looking for older books to begin with and I generally don't care how used they are when I order from there. Strange though, usually when I order a "Like New" book it comes in excellent condition :-/
I order a few books in "good" and "very good" condition, meaning they might be highlighted or maybe a broken spine... I'm okay with that, but if the books are "readable" but completely beat up I'm going to get mad :/ And I bought two books "like new", and I'm expecting just that. I should get my books soon, though, I'll let you know!
Thanks! I'm also picky though because "good condition" to me is no highlighting. Highlighting is "horrible" condition for me.
Mel wrote: "Thanks! I'm also picky though because "good condition" to me is no highlighting. Highlighting is "horrible" condition for me."Agreed. Highlighting and writing of any kind is awful to me.
Whenever I have ordered "Like New" from Thriftbooks.com they've been fine. B&N membership is great bcuz you get a new book shipped quick no matter the price and if you lived in (I forget the city) NY they will deliver it that day!
Waiting on 2 people to send, and 2 people are sending tomorrow and then we're all set!!!
There is one person I MAY have to cancel but otherwise all looks good!

Soo my books from thriftbooks finally came, and I'm very satisfy with 5 of them; there is one that is pretty beat up, and that is from a library. I didn't notice it was from a library when I bought it :/ but the other ones are really good, the books that I bought "like new" are actually "like new" :)

Note to future self: Do NOT allow people to send their gifts late and remember to make that rule in future messages.
Mel wrote: "Note to future self: Do NOT allow people to send their gifts late and remember to make that rule in future messages."What happened, Mel?
2 people have yet to send, and both the orders to them are already shipped so if they don't get back to me, I'm gonna have to buy gifts for 2 people

Mel, I picked my Santaee's up for less than the $20 price limit, so if they don't respond I don't mind doubling up and getting another person's, dear!

Mel wrote: "Karly that is so sweet of you thank you so much! I will get back to you tomorrow!"Just let me know :D
yes Sofie I have a document with reminders for next year and names/profile links for people who arent allowed to participate lol
I just had someone whose name I don't recognize send me an email that they bought gifts for their person. Not sure if I should assume it's the right person and wrong name or to be really confused.
Well I know who they are gang sent so I will make sure it's them. But I'm still mad that someone is getting a book but is not sending one. I'm going to be sending them a strongly worded message telling them they better thank Karly for covering their ass and that they are definitely not participating next year.

I wouldn't bother mentioning to thank me, Mel... chances are that whomever it is did this deliberately and doesn't care that they are an inconvenience, but wanted a free book. Sucks. Just let me know :) I will pay it forward to whomever they had. Hopefully they still get it in time, though :/
That's very sad. There's no way to cancel their book????? maybe if the person sending contact the store? It's just not fair

I imagine their gift has already shipped, Wendy. (Which is why the delay is geniusly assholish....)
Regardless, it's Christmas and all. Just let me know whenever, Mel :)

Well, let's hope they don't like the book :)

I disagree..... because then the person who bought it for them is not only out money but is out money for a book that wasn't even enjoyed :/I hope that this person ends up donating the book to a shelter or something after reading it.

I just want to find a day when it's free shipping :P
I have some weird problem with paying shipping for some reason lol"
I was the same :P I create a shipping cart just for fun one day and they tell you how much the shipping is for the cart you have so it's convenient :P and I bought it because it was crazy cheap
