I really thought this book was well written, and I enjoyed reading it. It did however have more sex than I was comfortable with,(view spoiler)[ especially the affair the aged character had with a fourteen year old (view spoiler)[.I nearly recommended it to several people, and I'm glad I waited until I had read more. I thought the author described young love, marriage over many years, and aging accurately. The description of Columbia during the late 19th century and early 20th century was good too.
