The only blog I read is Scalzi's Whatever, but I think it's a pretty good one, and he writes about all kinds of stuff.
I'm not sure exactly what you're into, aside from Scalzi's Rothfuss' sites, here are others I subscribe to in feedly...Authors
Brandon Sanderson's site
Jim Butcher's site
Max Gladstone's site
Neil Gaiman's journal
George RR Martin's LiveJournal
Edward Lerner's site
People Who Enjoy Reading
Library Jim (who's also an S&L'er!)
Reading Envy (from S&L'er Jenny!)
Reading, Running, and Red Sox
Tor.com
Alastair Reynolds has a blog called Approaching Pavonis Mons. His updates can be a bit infrequent (usually monthlyish on average), but his posts are often very reflective about topics like astronomy, writing, and the state of SFF.
Thanks Michelle! Scalzi's site must be setting the net on fire... I have received about twenty blog recommendations across various groups and Scalzi has appeared three times already...Thanks Alex! Rothfuss is coming highly recommended as an author, and I just got his first book, I can't wait to read it.
Thanks TerpKristen! Is that a Univ of Maryland reference? I am a huge Robert Jordan fan... I am working my way to the Brandon Sanderson books...will check out the sites.
Thanks Alastair! Will check it out
Yes, my name is a reference to the fact that I got my BS and my MS at University of Maryland. Go Terps! ;)
http://www.eatthedamncake.comThis is updated less frequently since she became a mother, but it is very reflective.
Kameron Hurley's is one of the few writer's blogs that I check out on a regular basis. I think it fits most of the requirements you listed.

Thanks All! Interesting that I have received so many great suggestions from this group. I have posted on several large groups because I am really interested in getting hooked on a couple of great blogs, but only this group and one other, SciFi And Fantasy, have generated several suggestions. I will check out all the blogs, so thank you very much Misti, Andy, Caitlin, Caleb, Kristen, Ben, Alex, and Michele. I just read a couple of the posts from Karmeron Hurley and she definitely pulled me right in with with her writing... she has taken off the rose-colored glasses and writes with an edge.
A few other suggestions - these aren't directly about fantasy and sf, but might appeal to fantasy and sf readers:Beachcombing's Bizarre History Blog - http://www.strangehistory.net/ - oddities and obscurities from history.
Petros Jordan - http://petrosjordan.wordpress.com/ - a blog of historic and sometimes fantastical maps.
EsoterX - http://esoterx.com/ - long, detailed posts on monsters and mythology.
Not on my computer right now, but if you google Auxiliary Memory, it should kead you to a great WordPress blog by an old guy that posts some awesome articles daily. Very interesting stuff. He also seems to be extremely well read in science fiction, so you'll come across some great old books along the way.
I'd like to humbly recommend two that I run. First up, one that will probably really speak to you since there's a large overlap between sci fi and comics fans. Comic POW! http://www.comicpow.com/ - at Comic POW! we don't do reviews like every other Comic site on the net. (With a slight exception being advanced reviews every now and then) Rather, we like to look at the bigger picture and how comics fit into society as a whole and what the author is trying to say. Here are two articles that I think convey a good sense of what we strive for: http://www.comicpow.com/2014/05/21/wh... and http://www.comicpow.com/2014/01/17/co...
On a more personal level, there's my personal blog ( http://www.ericsbinaryworld.com ) where I blog about fatherhood, technology, culture, politics, and photography. Right now I've been a little light on the updates because my personal life has been a little extra busy. Here are some examples of the types of things I write about:

I've seen threads like this pop up from time to time, so I've moved our Writers Resources section to its own wiki. It already includes many of the authors listed above. If anyone finds a good author/writer/publishing blog or podcast, you can add it to the Foil and Phaser Wiki or leave it in this thread and I'll add it in as soon as I can.

Best, Joe
