"In 1996, it was selected for a reading given at the Harbourfront Reading Series (Toront) to mark Freedom to Read Week.
They couldn't find a copy in any public library across CANADA. One of the cabinet ministers had to arrange for part of the book to be faxed from the NY public library.
Objection: During the early years of the Cold War, the book appeared on Canada Customs' prohibited list of books, probably because the author was a renowned Russian communist."
I'm sorry, I have to find this a little funny. Canada, according to the elections website, has two different communist parties (as of March 31, 2014. Not historically, right now.). The Communist Party of Canada, and the Marxist-Leninist Party. And that's the big, legislative-level parties.
No library all of Canada had a copy of the book as late as the 90s?
I've got a question, and I'm hoping someone on here can solve it.
I'm on the freedomtoread.ca website, and one of the books listed is "Chapters From My Diary" by Leon Trotsky.
I tried searching it on goodreads, but haven't been able to find any hits.
A web search turned up a hit on the Online Books Page.
