Hello wonderful people,

I'm planning to release my second book (Business Doctors) in a few weeks and hoping to get some feedback on the book page on my site.

Here's the link:

I'd really appreciate it if you could take a quick look and let me know if the promo text, trailer, visuals look intriguing and fresh.

Or if it gives you a sense of deja vu and falls flat.

After working on this for many months, I know I've developed blind spots. Your objective, balanced and constructive feedback will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I realized I can't add another response to the same thread. So, updating the original post to thank everyone who has been so kind to share their thoughts. Much appreciated!

The general feedback I got from here and other sites, was that the trailer concept was good, but the presentation was amateurish. I've hired a professional to re-work the video. Hope you like the new avatar.

Hi Sameer,

Just went through the landing site for your book and I have to tell you that I simply loved the trailers. Both of them were innovative, full of intriguing hints that made me just want to go out and buy the book and start reading immediately. So kudos for that.. :)

As for the blurb, I felt that there was something lacking. I am sorry but am not a writer, much less a critic or anything like that but a simple reader and to my eyes, it felt a little flat. Maybe if you could use some of the intriguing hints that you have adopted in the trailer as part of your blurb, albeit in a different manner, it would make it more interesting.

The page itself was ok. I felt a little overwhelmed with the other factors being advertised and shared in the page. I mean this is a page for your book and I felt that it was marginalised to some extent by the other factors. I had to concentrate and ensure that my concentration was on the book itself rather than explore the other areas. While this is good for your overall website promotion, am not sure if it will help with your book promotion. The page should ideally be about the book and it could also contain links to your entire website.. Again this is my personal opinion and I don't mean it in a wrong way.

Overall a great job and loved the trailers... Wishing you the very best for your book and all future endeavours.

Hi Sameer,

Ok, I'll tell you what I think. Of course, standard disclaimer: these are just my thoughts and subject to my own biases.

Good:
1. I like the title. It's different and easy to remember.
2. I like the font.
3. I like the intro you wrote. The feeling I get with the book is that this is going to be about how a guy goes in, looks into the various business practices and things a mafia boss is doing, and maybe changes things around. All this with some excitement and adventure, and quite a bit of management gyaan thrown in.
4. I like the angle you're pitching trailer 1 from. Smart, and interesting.
5. I like trailer 2 as well. It's piques my interest.

Bad:
1. I don't like the cover image. It looks cheesy to me and suggests a thriller in the form of a Jason Bourne novel while I believe this book is not that. The disconnect between the image and the intro is jarring to me.
2. In trailer 1, it would be nice if the text explaining what the book is about from 0:30 to 0:33 was there a little longer. It's not long enough for me to comfortably read it. Also, the slide just after that looks very professional while the vibe I'm getting from the overall video is that of a hardcore thriller and excitement. Hearing the last traces of the music play while looking at that slide provides a bit of a disconnect.
3. For trailer 2, a small gripe is that the words scroll by a bit fast from 0:00 to 0:07 seconds of the video.

word with moses about the book cover. that kinda book cover will not make your book stand out in book stores, as it will seem like just another run of the mill action story, which I guess your book is not. But if it is, then you probably will have to get a lot more innovative with the cover design.

and i will reserve my comments on the video cuz a video will be just a diversionary waste of time from the book's promotion, unless its quality is backed by publishing might.

Hi Sameer

I looked at the page again just now.

The stub provided next to the cover of the book does feel intriguing. However I did not get any idea from that about why the book is called "Business Doctors", although vaguely it can be related to how doctors (surgeons rather) manipulate and cure the human body (business).

All the best on your interesting effort on self-publishing.
