Daemondice | 20 comments 1. How should these profiles be merged?
1.1. Maria Spivak, Мария Спивак, Masha Spivak
1.2. Марина Литвинова, Marina Litvinova
2. Should these profile names be changed into Russian?
2.1. Vladimir Babkov
2.2. Victor Golyshev
2.3. Leonid Motylev
2.4. Sergey Ilyin
2.5. Maya Lakhuti
3. Should this book’s cover be changed to this? Ellie warned here that the usual procedure is to create a new entry in such cases, but this edition was specifically intended as one with an “adult” cover (1, 2).
4. Should this entry be merged with some other edition? If so, does it matter with which one?
5. Are book covers copyright-restricted? That is, can I freely find the right cover for the particular ISBN on the internet and upload it if it’s missing, or change the existing cover to best available version, by dimensions and size?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments I don't think we have a policy around Translator profiles and language - but to be safe keep both, and link as we would in author profiles.

I would like rivka to contribute

1. The Roman/ Russian should not be. What is the translators correct name? The two roman can be merged if one name is incorrect. Then the profiles should have links to each other in the author description field

2. Leave as they are for the time being

3. Do you have some proof of this?
4. Yes - you need to separate that one and another Russian version, then merge it in to the other Russian version so anyone with it one their shelves still have the Russian version on their shelves, since there is no real detail just choose any version and then recombine

5. Check the librarians manual, there is a list of suitable sites to obtain images, searching the web and finding one is NOT permitted

Please do not merge any author profile into another for the same author but in a different language. Similarly, do not edit a profile in one language into a different language, unless the author has ZERO BOOKS in the first language, including translations, etc. (Example: If an Arabic author with books only in Arabic, and no translations or plans for same in English, the English profile could be edited to be in Arabic. But only if you are CERTAIN there are no English translations.)

See https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2...
Authors with books published in multiple languages should have their names dealt with similarly to those with pen names. All editions should have the primary author name as the standard or most common Roman (that is, English-language) version of the author's name. Editions published under another spelling of the name or the name in another language should have that name listed as the secondary author.

Different editions of a book not having the same primary author can cause quite a few distinct problems. Please keep the primary author for all editions of a work the same.

That sounds like the best plan to me.

3: Do not change covers. Add an alternate cover edition.

4: Yes. With the most popular match for it, since it has no extra information to allow you to guess which was intended.

5: Cover sources are discussed in the Manual here: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2... and here: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2...

Daemondice | 20 comments |1. What is the translators correct name?

In ru.Wikipedia she’s named as Maria Spivak (Russian), on her website she goes by both Maria and Masha Spivak.

|2. Leave as they are for the time being

Ok. Which spelling should be used for them as translators though (examples: 1, 2, 3)? Same with Marina Litvinova—see for example Ru!HP books #2 and #3.

|3. Do you have some proof of this?
|3: Do not change covers. Add an alternate cover edition.

This Russian DB says so (“взрослое оформление”=“adult design”), and the “adult” cover is displayed with this ISBN on Ozon market.

|4. Yes - you need to separate [..] then merge

So only book/15845039 is being separated, and then merged into one of the Russian books that is already combined with the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban metaentry, is this correct?

|5. (links)

Thanks for the links.

The fact that a book is available now for sale with a given cover does not mean it was not previously for sale with a different cover. This is the purpose of alternate cover editions. In any case, we cannot use bookseller sites as the source of book data.

You need to separate the edition that you are merging it with (unless it is the default edition.)
Then you need to combine them together and delete the edition that you want to be merged into the better entry. the book will be queued for merging.
See a better explanation in the manual: https://www.goodreads.com/librarian_m...

Anastasia aka Taurendil (theanastasia) | 11 comments There is this book Me kolme ja Ritvan suojatit which is written by Anni Swan. That author has a book named Me kolme ja Ritvan suojakit(note the k in the last word!) Me kolme ja Ritvan suojakit which doens´t have a cover (The other one has). The author marked for the first book is Swan, Anni. It seems like there is a mistake.
So the book is called Me kolme ja Ritvan suojatit, not suojakit. And the latter author should be deleted, I guess. How could this be done?

Anastasia aka Taurendil (theanastasia) | 11 comments Oh, thank you! That was fast :)
But there still is a problem with this book since the typo is in the ´original title´. Could that be fixed?
