Alex got out of the car in the parking lot of the church. He was thankful to escape the confined space of the car. He looked around and realized that Raine's car wasn't there yet. He walked into the church to a back room where the groomsmen were standing around in their suits. They started clapping and patting him on the back when he came in. Alex managed another fake smile. He felt more like running.

Raine was still considerably pale as their car pulled up to the church. She looked out her window and saw that Alex was already there. She wondered how he was holding up, she knew she was a nervous wreck and wondered if he was fairing any better. She walked into the church with her mom after she checked to make sure Alex wasn't out wandering the halls. Dottie was very strict about the bride and groom not seeing each other until Raine was walking down the aisle. Raine sighed and texted Alex 'Can we leave now?' She asked as she was pushed into a room of squealing girls that were her bridesmaids
Alex pulled his phone out of his pocket. He smiled when he read Raine's text even though he figured she was probably serious. "I think the bride and groom are actually kind of important to a wedding. I know I'm not supposed to see you, but I want to talk to you. I think I have an idea. Can you get to the empty room at the end of the hall?" he sent her.
Raine looked down at the message on her phone and smiled just a little, "Yes I can get there it might take me a little longer than you though." She answered. She was glad at that moment that the bathroom had a connecting door to the hallway and that she wasn't in her dress quite yet. Because they still have about two hours she was free to keep her more comfortable summer dress on. She looked at all of the other girls and saw that they were occupied with fixing their hair and makeup
Alex heaved a sigh of relief after reading Raine's message. "Okay. When you get there text me." he sent.
Raine looked at the message but decided to just slip out of the bathroom and reply when she got to the room. She closed the door behind her quietly and texted Alex," I'm here."
Alex made his way to the room where Raine was. It wasn't hard to slip away unnoticed from his friends. "Are you in your dress yet?" Alex sent.
Raine sighed softly and leaned against the wall and looked at her phone. She smiled a little and replied," Are you kidding? Not yet.. I'm not putting my dress on until the last possible second."
Alex gripped the door handle after reading her text, and came in. Raine had her hair done and her makeup. Alex closed the door behind him. "You look beautiful." he said. "Sorry I asked you to slip away, but I just wanted to see you one more time before everything. I figured I should treasure every moment we still have as just friends." Alex said. "Raine, how are we ever going to make it through the kiss?" Alex asked. He couldn't look her in the eye when he said it. It had been a topic they had been avoiding, but it was going to happen eventually. And Alex had been dreading it more than anything else that he knew was going to happen today.
Raine looked over at the door as he walked in. She smiled just a little at his compliment, "Thanks... You don't look half bad yourself." She answered quietly," It's alright I wanted to get out of that room since I set foot in there." She sighed," I know we should but we can still be friends even if we are married right?" She asked. Raine chewed on her lip at his question," I I don't know Alex." She answered quietly.
Alex stared at the floor for a while. then he perked up not wanting the silence to last any longer. "Well, I guess we'll get there when we get there, and we shouldn't worry about it before then." he managed a smile. She really did look beautiful. Alex reached into the pocket of his coat for the gift he had been carefully toting around trying not to crush. Unfolding the Raine and handed her the rose he'd picked from his mother's rose bush. It was just as perfect as when he'd picked it. "I got you something." he said and handed her the rose. "I thought you'd like it."
Raine continued to lean against the wall," I guess I can deal with that." She answered softly. She looked over at him when she saw him moving out of the corner of her eye. She watched as he pulled a rose out of his coat pocket. The princess smiled," It's beautiful." She said quietly," Thank you." She took the rose from his hand. She looked up at him. He really was a sweetheart when he wanted to be
Alex's spirits lifted when she smiled at the rose. "I'm glad we'll still be able to be friends when we're married. I mean, everyone always told me to marry my best friend. I didn't exactly think it would happen like this, but maybe it won't be so bad." he said. That was when he heard a woman's voice calling Raine's name in the hallway.
She nodded just a little," Yeah I heard that too, but I didn't know it would turn out like this." She answered. She looked at the door and frowned," I should go." She said softly. "You might want to hide a little." She told him softly. Raine walked to the door. "I'll see you in a little bit."
Alex stood in a shaded corner and watched Raine leave. He hated seeing her go, but the wedding was getting closer and closer, he knew. Chris waited until he thought Raine and the woman who had been looking for her were out of the hallway before he went back to the room where his groomsmen were getting ready. Sometimes he regretted the fact that he was a royal.
Raine have him a small smile as she walked out the door. She looked over at one of the girls that was standing up with her," Oh Princess there you are." Raine looked at her, "Sorry I was just a little overwhelmed in there." Sarah nodded a little," Well let's get you back the wedding will be starting in half an hour so you need to get your dress on." Raine cast on last look at the door she had just come out of and nodded," I'm coming."
Alex paced back and forth in the groomsmen's room. His father must have seen him because he walked over and patted him on the back. Alex was a little startled. He had been too deep in thought to notice his father approaching. "Hey, dad." Alex said."Are you alright, Alex?" his father asked. Alex nodded, but his father's concerned expression didn't go away. "You know, I got married to your mother when I was about your age. We met on our wedding day. I was so nervous. I know you must be, but at least you and Princess Raine are friends. You should know your mother and I are extremely proud of you for doing this. All your mother's ever talked about was the day you'd get married, and now it's here. Don't look so terrified. Sometimes, you can learn to love people. I learned to love your mother, and I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. Just give it time, and maybe you and the princess van learn to love each other. Everything will be alright." his father reassured him with a smile. Alex gave his dad a hug. He hadn't done that since he was ten, but he felt like he needed to. His father laughed and hugged him back.
"Thanks, dad." Alex said. At least now, he had hope.
Raine sighed as she got into her dress. The one thing she was thankful for about it was it's simple design, though it was a bit heavy. Her dad was the only guy to see her in her dress before the rest of the guests and Alex. Her mother just then realized how pale and nervous her daughter looked. Dottie looked at her, "Oh honey, there is no need to be nervous." She told her daughter, "Be thankful at you and the prince are friends. I didn't know your father until a week after we got married. He left as soon as we said our vows." Raine nodded just a little, "I know mom." She said softly, "Raine you just have to be patient I'm sure you will learn to love Alexander just like I did your dad." The princess nodded. "Alright, thanks mom." She said and managed a small smile. it wasn't strange then for royalty to have arranged marriages.(( http://ipunya.com/wp-content/uploads/... )) {Her dress}
{Pretty!} Alex went with the rest of the groomsmen to the chapel part of the church where the guests were waiting about ten minutes before the ceremony was to begin and watched as everyone began to settle down.
{Thank you}Raine stood with one of her best girl friends who knew exactly what she was feeling right then. Gracie looked at Raine and squeezed her hand, "It's not long now." The young princess looked over at her friend and nodded, "I suppose." she answered softly hearing the piano start to play.
One of Alex's groomsmen standing in the line behind him leaned over to Alex. "No backing out now, man. This is it." he whispered when the piano started to play. Alex's pulse rose. He watched as the first bridesmaid started her walk down the aisle.
Gracie was the last bridesmaid to go out before Raine. She looked up at her dad who gently squeezed her hand that was holding his arm. He smiled at her, "Almost your turn." He whispered looking at her. She nodded a little holding on to her dad as the doors opened for them.
Alex caught his breath. The doors of the church had opened, and there was Raine. Her dress was perfect. She looked perfect. For a split second, all of Alex's nerves vanished, and Raine was all he could think about. He didn't see the hundreds of people gathered in their seats in the church. He only saw Raine. When she started walking down the aisle, Alex snapped back to reality. His nerves came rushing back, and he was reminded just how completely not ready he was for this.
Raine looked up the aisle at Alex as she walked with her dad. She was glad that he was there or she would have not been able to walk anywhere. She gripped her dad nervously not ready for anything that was about to happen to her and Alex. He really did look handsome standing up there waiting for her.
As Raine made her way down the aisle, Alex ran the past two days over in his head. He wasn't sure at what point this had all really hit him, but now it was happening. He was just going to have to go with it. He watched as Raine came to a stop with her father.
Raine looked at the front of the church where he was standing. She took a deep breath as they got closer to Alex and the pastor. She honestly had no idea what had happened over the past few weeks and days. Now there was no turning back as her dad gave her over to Alex
As they turned to the pastor, all Alex could do was mentally beg for the strength to make it through this. The pastor started the ceremony, and everyone was still. Alex listened as the pastor spoke the usual words of matrimony "We are gathered here today..."
Raine stood just close enough to Alex to make it look like they were touching when really they weren't. She silently tried to calm herself but that didn't work out very well. Really she didn't even hear the pastor start talking
Alex felt like the pastor was purposefully drawing the speech out longer and longer. He was sure they'd been standing up there for at least two hours when he finally heard the pastor ask if anyone objected to this union. Alex wondered if it was acceptable for the groom to raise his hand, but the thought vanished as quickly as it had come. Alex listened as silence answered the pastor's question.
Raine was trying her very hardest to pay attention to what was going on in the ceremony, but with her not wanting to be there and how the small diamond tiara was piercing her head it was hard for her. thinking that after the pastor asked his question you could hear a pin drop she chewed on her lip and glanced up at Alex knowing he was feeling the same way she was.
Alex caught Raine looking at him out of the corner of his eye, and returned her glance. Her eyes were full of nervous desperation, and it killed him that he couldn't do anything about it. He was just as out of it as she was. His heart dropped when the ring bearer came forward with the small pillow holding two shining golden bands. This was it.
Raine really did just want to leave right then and knew that Alex would gladly go with her. She didn't think that any other couple on their wedding day would be thinking the way she was. As the ring bearer who just happened to be her cousin came forward, Raine was sure she felt her heart stop. Ok now she wasn't going to be able to run. With one last look at Alex she turned her startled and nervous gaze back the the pastor
Alex reached for the ring he was going to place on Raine's finger. When he took her hand, he could feel her fingers shaking. He slid the ring onto her finger while saying the words "with this ring, I thee wed." Now it was Raine's turn.
Raine looked over at Alex as he slid the ring onto her finger and repeated the words the pastor had said. Now it was her turn to say the same thing. With her slightly trembling fingers she took the ring that her parents had gotten for Alex and slipped it onto his finger saying in a very soft voice," With this ring, I thee wed."
What should have come as a relief that the ring part was over, came as an even worse case of nerves for Alex. Now it was time for the part he had been dreading. The final part of the wedding, thank goodness, but also the most heart wrenching part of the whole thing, the kiss. Alex heard the words like they were being spoken under water, slurred and blurry, "You may now kiss the bride." Alex was holding Raine's hands in his, and he gave them what he hoped to her was a reassuring squeeze. Then, he closed his eyes and leaned forward with his head tilted just the slightest bit to kiss his bride.
Raine felt like just passing out now, the most nerve-wreaking part was next. The one thing that her and Alex had managed to avoid the past few days was now something people were going to be talking about. She had been staring at the yellow rose on his jacket until that moment when she finally looked up at him a little when the pressure on her hands changed slightly. Well, here goes nothing she thought just before their lips meet. Of course the guests all cheered
Raine's lips were surprisingly soft on Alex's. For a split second, the noise of the cheering crowd went away. Alex couldn't focus on anything. The kiss was gentle and simple. It was nothing like he'd expected. It wasn't bad at all. He didn't know if that should calm his nerves or make them worse. He thought he was supposed to hate kissing his friend, but now, he was startled by the fact that it wasn't a bad kiss. He felt a slight surge of heat in his cheeks, and was shocked to find that he was blushing just the slightest bit.
Raine was slightly surprised by how sweet and gentle kissing Alex was. She wasn't expecting to like kissing her friend as thought it would be awful, when really it was not too bad. The princess pulled away from his just a little. She blushed a pretty pink and smiled just a little at him though she was a little embarrassed
Alex wasn't really sure what to do now. He extended his hand for Raine to take. He figured they should walk down thaisle together now. He was ready to get out of the church and away from all of the guests.
Raine slipped her hand into his. She wanted to get out of here and not have to see all I the people that had come to their wedding. Honestly the princess was happy it was all over for right then. She was sure there would be more celebrations and such later but she was here now and wanted to get to a quiet place
Alex led Raine down the aisle by her hand. He considered running, but thought that a fast walk was more appropriate. Plus, there was no way that Raine could run in her dress. When they came through the church doors and into the afternoon air, Alex breathed with relief to be out of the church. He didn't feel so trapped. He looked at Raine whose hand he had let go of when they got outside. "We made it." He said with astonished relief. "How ate you holding up?" He asked.
Raine followed him down the aisle keeping up with him without a problem. She sighed softly once they were out of the church doors. she looked over at Alex once they were out of the church and gave him just a very small smile, "Well that wasn't horrible." she commented softly. She shrugged a little, "I'm alright.. how are you?"
Alex nodded his head. "I'm actually pretty good. That wasn't what I was expecting at all..." He said.
Raine laughed softly," Yeah me either." She answered. "I wonder what would happen if we decided not to go to that party that is planned for later tonight." She mused thoughtfully
((Lol! It was fine, but the new one is good too! :) )) Alex got a mischievous look in his eyes. "You wanna find out?" He asked. He was half kidding, but he wondered if Raine really did want to skip the after party.
Raine giggled softly," well I wouldn't mind finding out." She answered. Now while she was still giggling she was being serious. Raine didn't want to go to the after party and see all those people and have to pretend she was happy with what she had been forced to do.
Alex extended his hand to her while maintaining his grin. With his other hand, he reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a set of keys. "Well look at that. I kept the keys to the car my parents and I came in. I think fate is trying to tell us something." He shook the keys a little and raised his eyebrows in a questioning manner at Raine.
Raine smiled and put her hand into his as he reached into his pocket," it's seems as if they are telling us we should leave." She said giggling softly," Let's go before our parents come to find us." She said in answer to his questioning look.
Alex snuck to the car with Raine's hand in his. When they got to the car, Alex opened Raine's door for her and helped her in. Then he walked quickly around to the driver's side and got in. He started the car and pulled out of the parking lot without anyone seeing them. He laughed a little at the suspense being gone. "Where to, my lady?" He asked looking at Raine.
