Bijan | 68 comments I've had this idea for a while. You know, each of us has a music player on our favorite device. Most of these music players has a function to list our most played songs. Some of them can even tell us how many times we played a song.

Even if you don't have those applications or functions, you can list your most played songs manually. So, here we want to share that playlist with each other.

I think "a month" would be a good period but "a week" is also nice. Therefore, just share it with us in any way you like it.

There are so many classic rock songs that I love. I adore groups like Kansas, America, Moody Blues, Procol Harum, and the list goes on. I think in 60's and 70's, there was a tendency towards composing sophisticated songs. One can look at them as philosophical, sociological, or just meaningful songs.

I also like Blink 182. For me, their music is dreamy and I like this trait of them.

I have no idea about Bring Me The Horizon and Pierce The Veil, but I will check them out.

Thank you Phillip.

Yes, I think "haunting" would be a better choice. Especially, if you consider their album "Enema of the State". There are so many songs in it that have this quality. You've already mentioned "Adam's Song". I also want to add "Aliens Exist" and "All the Small Things" from that album.

Petula Clark is my favourite too. I like her voice very much. For me there is a spectrum of happy-sad pop songs in 1950's - 1960's. I mean, there were extremely happy and extremely sad songs during this period. There were also some songs in between. Petula Clark's songs generally were near the happy end of the spectrum. Even her sad songs are not very sad for me. One the opposite side, there is Brenda Lee. Some of the saddest songs I've ever heard in my life are from her. Even in her most joyful songs, I can sense the sadness of her voice.

The songs like "All Alone Am I" and "Losing You" can make your eyes teary so easily.

I think my favorite traditional Christmas Carol is Carol of the bells, which I just discovered is based on a Ukrainian folk song: Shchedryk" (from Ukrainian: Щедрий вечiр, "Bountiful Evening") is a Ukrainian shchedrivka, or New Year's carol.

Thank you Phillip for your nice words. I'm so happy that I can communicate with you guys through music.

Phillip, I agree with what you've said about Jolene. It's for sure a unique song with a very surprising point of view: A woman pleads with another woman for not stealing her love. It'd become a very famous song around the world. Even in my country, Iran, a famous singer covered it in late 1970's.

I've heard lots of covers, but as you said, a few of them captured my attention. I should check Jack White's version though.

Hi Phillip,
So sorry for late reply. I've been very busy and I lost the track of time. I love the voice of Glen Phillips, the frontman of Toad the Wet Sprocket. I also love the concepts of their songs and the sound of acoustic guitar in most of their songs.

I also love REM very much but I could never be a Smashing Pumpkins' fan. I like some of their songs, but not all of them.

I agree with you about Nirvana. I also should be in a specific mood to listen to Curt Cobain. The only exception for me is "smells Like Teen Spirit" :)

oh, "Winter's Weather". Wonderful song indeed. <3

"Real Men" is one of the best songs about sexual orientation and gender roles. I like it very much. Unfortunately I should be in a happy mood so I can listen to it. Because it's rather depressing for me. I used to listen to it in my early 20's, when my closest friends were straight and they were against me being gay. I think I should erase those memories now and make some new ones with this song. Btw, Tori Amos has a brilliant cover of "Real Men". Check it out if you're interested:

I really like her Phillip. You can see some of her songs on my previous playlists. She is an icon in pop music for sure. I especially like her 80's and 90's songs, but there are only a few songs from her newer catalogue that I can connect with.

To name some of them:
La Isla Bonita, Frozen, Rain, Express Yourself, Live to Tell, Into the Groove, Who's That Girl, Like a Prayer, Papa Don't Preach, Dress You Up, Justify My Love, Erotica, and Girl Gone Wild from her 2012 album "MDNA".

Wow, I've just checked the duet and it was mesmerizing. Thank you for mentioning it, Phillip.

I liked the way they looked at each other during the performance and Sarah's voice was just right for this beautiful song.

I'll check "Hold on" later.

Nice collection from different genres. I liked it.

About No.1, I like this cover but I like the original version by Joni Mitchell more.

I also like the fact that you appreciate alternative music so much. It's one of my favorite genres too.

I know the feeling Phillip. When I was out, "Real Men" by Joe Jackson and "Crucify" by Tori Amos had become my "out" anthems. They could calm my nervous mind and give me hope and strength. It's funny that the first one is about uncertainty and the latter is about anger and pain :)

I like that song very much. Obviously ;) I adore "I Will Survive" too.

Oh yes, "Crucify" spoke to me hugely as well Bijan!

Absolutely true. We should also mention the 80's classics like "Like A Virgin" and "Express Yourself" by Madonna. They have become gay anthems since then.
