Michael Terwindt What made you decide to crowdfund for your project?

After reading about a project that used crowdfunding, it dawned on me to spark up interest and support for The Hinge: The Importance of Mental Toughness by using crowdfunding. I wanted to use Pubslush because it was devoted to authors and books! It was the ideal way to garner pre-sales for the book!

Did you have any apprehension about the crowdfunding process?

None at all. I believed in my book, the message that it only takes one, and knew people would get an awesome product.

How would you construct your campaign and outreach differently?

I did send an email blast over a LISTSERV and got some backlash for this. I would not use crowdfunding on a public forum in the future.

What was your most effective method of communication?

Direct calls and emails was the most effective. Daily posts via social media as well. I utilized my existing network of people for support and pre-sale.

What were you able to achieve with your campaign dollars?

The Hinge: The Importance of Mental Toughness was successfully published and I covered the expenses for pre-orders, editing, copyright, and design.

How do you see crowdfunding fitting into the publishing process, now and in the future?

There are many quality books out there in the marketplace. What I learned is that indy publishing is growing so rapidly that using Pubslush to garner interest and defray costs will become the norm.
