I think it is very interesting how optimistic Jamie is even though his life can be very dark at times. Throughout the book, Jamie shows how bright and funny he can be. It almost feels like the only sad scene was when Jamie tells the cool girl about his parents. Jamie's life story is very depressing. Once his parents died he had to move in with a family that never laughs and the school bully. Through out the book Jamie shows that even though he has seen the darkest stuff, he still stays optimistic.
