Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I'm working on rewriting my novel chapters, so they're completely different from the chapters that I posted here. Should I delete the old chapters and replace them with the new ones?

Philip Dodd (philipdodd) | 35 comments When I understood that some of the chapters in my story were too long, I used the essence of them, to write new, shorter ones. Always, it is the essence of a story that is important, the bare bones, not the layers of clothing used to wrap around them. Writing is about speaking essence to essence. It may be hard to discard passages that you were proud of, but if they only distract or deviate from the root tale, then they have to go. Just use the essence of what you have written as a base, and build from there.
