I think this was one of the most cruel scenes in the book. It was when Amir asked Hassan whether Hassan would eat dirt if Amir asked him too. Hassan said he would, meaning it, but then asked Amir whether he would ever ask Hassan to do such a thing. Amir said no, quite defensively, forcing a smile. Hassan believed him.
Why do you think Amir made such a comment as above? Do you think that he didn't mean what he said? Is this a sort of foretelling for what he would or wouldn't do later on?
