Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments A second release for me! More horror, as the Mister Jones Mysteries series grows.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Curse-Clyffe...

The Curse of Clyffe House is the fourth in the Mister Jones Mysteries collection

It was supposed to be a holiday, time away whilst his friend and neighbour wrote a book about their last adventure. But as soon as Mister Jones arrives at the holiday cottage things start to go wrong, and waking up to find a skeleton in his bed is only the start. Terror stalks this cottage and before long Mister Jones discovers an ancient Evil is plotting to wreak devastation across the land; and it will start with his death.

Poison, fear and a horrific Shadow from long ago stand between their survival: can Mister Jones and his friend defeat the Curse of Clyffe House and live?

Praise for the Mister Jones Mysteries collection on Amazon:

‘I could not put the book down’

‘Creepy and unsettling’

‘Don’t read alone in the dark’

‘Sparsely told in a classic horror style’

‘A mad rush into danger that horror lovers will adore’

‘A classic, Dennis Wheatley feel’

‘Read it in one sitting’

On tiptoe

My YA novella on Amazon. uk

Anna lives her life with her father, Gabriel, and her beloved dog Click. She tries to get confused in the fog of London and expresses her emotions only through dance. “I'm fickle, tied to a life that doesn't exist any more: true love, perfect life, good friends. Everything is so damned difficult for me! Like a never-ending dance where the choreographer is never satisfied!” And if life were an eternal dance? Would you dance with your eyes closed? On her seventeenth birthday, on a windy spring day, Anna meets Romeo, his smile, his voice, and she wakes up. But in a play of silence and destiny, their roads divide, and Anna loses her equilibrium yet again. Will any type of melody unite them again? Or is Stuart her true love? Will dancing save her?

Boo!
A spook flies in.
A spook flies out.
He’ll scare you silly,
Unless you shout,
Right back at him,
In a scarier yell,
Now who’s the spook?
No one can tell.
A witch rides in,
Across the room,
Just knock her off,
Of her silly broom.
And if she tries,
To ride again,
Just sweep her into,
The garbage can.
A ghost appears,
In a misty white,
Floats up to you,
You’re all a fright.
Just look straight into,
His ghostly eyes,
Yell a big boo,
And away he flies.
BOO!

"Reminiscent of our most beloved childhood nursery rhymes, this collection of poetry brought a smile to my face. Modern poetry often belittles the skill of crafting memorable rhymes. It's nice to see that this style hasn't been forgotten entirely. In addition to the seasonal theme, there were some animal-themed verses in this short selection. Each poem is also accompanied by a small illustration. Both clever and witty, this book is perfect for reading out loud to young children."

The Midnight of Her Soul by K R Chapman
The Midnight of Her Soul
The Midnight of Her Soul

A novel about human endeavour and survival in extremely challenging circumstances that explores the complex relationships within communities, families and friendships when tested to the limits in such situations.

Jacques Duval operates an itinerant ballroom business, is a part-time musician, cobbler and a vintner selling wine to local villagers. Life for the Duvals is uncomplicated and yet hard work, but nevertheless agreeable. When France fell under the occupation of the Nazis in 1940 the Duvals discovered that what became a desperate drive for survival turned some people from rational, law-abiding, pious and principled individuals into marauding thugs as their primeval instincts drove them to do what in normal circumstances would have been abhorrent to them. And they discovered too, that the consequences of people’s actions led some to commit cruel and sadistic acts of retribution, causing lives to be wrecked for ever.

This novel is a true story about a family struggling to survive during and immediately after the Nazi occupation of France. It is set initially in Burgundy and later in Paris. The principal character, Marie, is one of three young daughters from the Duval household who were forced to endure harrowing and traumatic times.

The book is firmly set in the context of its time so that there is comparison between the servile collaboration of ordinary people trying to eek out a living in challenging times, and the infinitely more serious politically motivated collaboration of high ranking officials who sent French Jews to the gas chambers, and yet managed to evade arrest for several decades.

Whilst tackling a serious and sensitive subject the reader is invited to enter the everyday lives of the Duvals. There may be tragedy at the heart of their lives but the book touches on a lighter side too: love, friendship and companionship are recurrent themes that are firmly embedded in the central story.

Travelling through the very fabrics of existence itself, the inept duo encounter all manner of ridiculousness…and leave it a bloody wreck.

H.E. Bulstrode (goodreadscomhebulstrode) | 58 comments The Rude Woman of Cerne by H.E. Bulstrode
'The Rude Woman of Cerne' – a satirical comedy with a supernatural twist.

The road to hell may be paved with good intentions, but Beatrice Clemens is determined to make this adage more ‘relevant’ to today’s society by blithely driving an eight-lane superhighway straight through the heart of rural England. Dubbed the ‘Conscience of Dorset’ by a newly launched progressive broadsheet, one could be forgiven for forgetting that this doughty campaigner for social justice in its multifarious forms is actually a B&B hostess (although she would prefer the non-gender specific term ‘host’). Alas for her guests, her values and preoccupations are never far from her lips, and her inclusive zeal is something in which she enjoins all to share, even if they are only trying to order a full English breakfast, and enjoy a country break far from the clamour of the madding crowd.

Just as Beatrice stands upon the brink of receiving the acclamation that she believes her work with ‘Diversity from the City’ deserves, something, or someone, is glimpsed amidst the hedgerows and within the banks of the Trendle; shadowy, furtive – the embodiment of old Dorset? Whoever it may be, he does not, it would seem, share her enthusiasms.

The Lookout (Eden Reid Mysteries Book 1) by Beverley Carter

This story is longer and a little darker than my usual stories and marks the beginning of a new series with Eden Reid. The story is set in the bleak Suffolk coast in winter, which you’d think would be a safe place, away from the bustling summertime crowds. Think again.

Tom Briggs is a talented triathlete and freelance sports reporter, and he’s missing.

Armed with only the increasingly disturbing emails he left behind, Eden Reid has been sent to track him down. She soon discovers that separating fact from fiction is not easy and the events leading up to his disappearance draw her into the dark world of a psychopath.

Three sisters living in an isolated cottage may hold the key to what happened, but they are hiding from a tragic past of their own. As their fragile existence begins to unravel, their family ties are tested to the limit.

Possibly Ghosts is a collection of 12 Ghost stories, but there is a twist.

Ten of them are true or heavily based on real events.

Two of them are complete and utter fiction.

Readers must decide for themselves which are real and which are not. To find the answer to this after reading the book, readers may engage with the author here, where there are even some clues;

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Out today (12.11.16) a little book of Christmas stories, designed to get you into The Christmas Spirit (whatever that is!)

Are you ITCS yet? For those who don't know, we're talking about being In The Christmas Spirit here. Before you throw anything at your e-reader, just remember that this is a state of mind that advertisers and manufacturers try very hard to induce in you, and yet the answer is right here, in this little book. Being ‘In The Christmas Spirit’ is impossible to define. It’s a bit like love, you know it when you’re in it. Philip has gathered together a whole bunch of stories he's written about Christmases past and present, some factual, some fictional, over the years. Some of these, if you’re a regular reader of his ramblings (and we know there are some of you out there...we can hear you breathing) you may recognise from previous collections, although updates have been made where it was sensible to do so. Interspersed with these familiar stories are others that have never previously seen the light of day, including a story featuring Josiah and Archibald, the two fictitious undertakers, written specifically for this collection. We really hope that you get as much enjoyment from reading these stories as we've had gathering them, and that you're ITCS before you can say "Ho, ho, ho!"

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments The K'Barthan Box Set is out... if anyone's interested here's some info:

The K'Barthan Box Set comprises all four full-length K'Barthan Series novels combined into one huge ebook ... for the price of two of the stand-alones. So if you have downloaded the free first book and want to grab the rest of the series, you can swipe all four in one bargain hit. Here's the blurb:
All The Pan of Hamgee wants is a quiet life.

So why did he have to fall in love with a woman living a different version of reality, upset a murderous tyrant and then run out of places to hide?

Now all he has to do is face his inner demons, rescue everything he holds dear and save the world, or die trying.

Oh yes, and he's an abject coward.

Great. No pressure then.

The Box Set is currently on sale £6.99 ($7.99 in every type of dollar: US, CA, AU, NZ). So, if you think you'd like to treat yourself, here's where you can find it:

New Release - on special offer of 99p/99c until 27 November!

Hi everyone

I’m delighted to say that my third novel The Floozy in the Park is now out as an ebook.

Think murder, mystery, a beautiful but sinister island and the chance to shop in Edwardian England!

The book is partly set on the fictional island of Obea but its geography (not its people!) is based on the lovely island of Sark in the Channel Islands.

You can find more about the novel on its book page:

and read the Jane Davis interview here

A Christmas Outing

It's that time of year again, when Mum insists on dragging us to the Christmas markets. This year is a bit different, though, as my friend Jamie is coming too.

Mum is so stressed about enjoying the evening that she probably won't enjoy it, Dad has conveniently developed a sudden fear of crowds to try to get out of it, and I'm waiting for the right moment to tell them both that Jamie is more than just a friend...

A feel-good comedy short story of around 10,000 words.

***Please note that the 'Look Inside' formatting may display incorrectly but the book itself is correctly formatted.***

The second book in my DCI Jack Le Claire mystery series is just out. It can easily be read as a stand-alone. Obsession, desire, secrets . . . And murder.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Finally, after much effort, reformatting and endless requests from Ignite as to when it was coming, the sequel to An Orc Not Like Others has finally arrived.

It revels in the imaginative title of AN ORC LIKE BALREK and is available in all flavours of Amazon Kindle.

The blurb goes something along the lines of

"Balrek is not like other orcs.

For one thing, he is now the ruler of an entire City-kingdom, something that has not endeared him to many people of power and led to regular assassination attempts.

All of which makes securing his legacy and creating the first orc homeland all the more difficult.

And that was before what happened at the theatre.

This return to the City-kingdoms of An Orc Not Like Others brings together characters old and new to continue the story of the orc who truly is different from others."

which makes a whole lot more sense if you've read the first one, though I like to think that this one works on its own as well.

The all-important link is An Orc Like Balrek.

Thank you for your consideration.
