Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Talking of duct tape, my son spotted something wonderful on the internet. I'll paraphrase what he told us in the car this morning:

The universal theory of how to fix anything ...

Does it move?

If it moves, is it supposed to move?
If yes, no problem. If no, apply WD40.

If it doesn't move, is it supposed to not move?
If yes, no problem. If no, apply duct tape.

This gave us a fit of the giggles driving down the M40. I could think of occasions when I would replace the WD40 with vaseline, but it didn't seem polite to say so at the time.

Oh no there isn't, at least, not a sensible one.

I've experimented but I'll take it down later :-)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm happy to read chat when I've time. I don't always. Strangely, I have a life. Not much, by most people's standards...

It's called 'The Engineer's Flowchart'.

Jim | 21812 comments One thing that could be worth thinking about Patti. If we do shift to an Author thread system for promoting new releases we could perhaps do with 'more space' so you don't disappear quite as fast because it could be rather busy. Not sure entirely how you manage it but you won't need the space the book threads were

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Here is the new 'new releases' thread.

I'll be deleting all the other threads in that section when I get around to it.

No way of doing that. Only the ten most recently active threads will show on the home page.

I've posted a really subtle ad about my new release on it. IT's got the group affiliate links in though, I'll give it that.

Cheers

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments But it's not actually been released yet, has it Mary?

Oh Pants! Well... it's available on pre order for a knock down price... which will go up at the end of the first week in January (to £2.50).

Cheers

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments It can be, Tamara, but it does require some time and effort to become part of the community. Readers that come to know a new author are more likely to read their books, and spread the word if they enjoy them.

Edit: because they come to know a person, not a drive-by marketeer, and want to share that person's journey.

I think you have to be in it for the long haul. Join a community, be a member of the community, participate in the fun and games and over the years you'll probably sell books. Better still, being part of a community, members of the community who like your books will deploy the most powerful marketing tool available for you.
'Word of mouth.'

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm feeling used.

If I didn't love the members here, including you, Patti, I wouldn't keep returning. Selling books is secondary; as it should be :~)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Frequently.

But I don't share. :D
