So I'm through Book 1

Agatha(view spoiler)[ I'm not sure what she's looking for. I'm glad she was honest with Simon but...yeah, to lose her to Baz. That must sting Simon something awful, but it he was being honest with himself, he'd know he didn't really love her either. (hide spoiler)]

Simon(view spoiler)[ I feel bad for his broken magic. To be toted as this "HUGE" thing but feel like you aren't meeting expectations.I like that he's so grounded and average. He doesn't try to be more...but it does sound like he used to pull some pretty big tantrums.

I haven't read any of the book yet but I think I'm going to download the audio from scribd to try it out. One reviewer said that they couldn't give it 5 stars because it depended on the existence of Harry Potter in order for it to exist I think thats really strange as if you've read any fantasy book ever or seen any fantasy movie/ heroic movie or show you an recognize the tropes. JK Rowling did not invent these tropes though many may be aware of them due to her which I think is great.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way.

I think Ill listen to this book this month. The voice actor sounds great.

I completely agree, Chakara! I know it's loosely based on Harry Potter, but so is The whole Mortal Instruments (and loosely the Clockwork Prince series and, let's be honest! Many others!)

I think this one stands well on its own. I'm really loving the world and the main characters. It's similar to Harry Potter and not similar in a lot of ways.....

I hope you like it! I'm completely sucked in! LOL

Penny(view spoiler)[ the things that have happened to them sound awful and scary. I can't believe Simon is so level headed about it all

Mage(view spoiler)[ Huh...I'm not really sure what to make of him so far. I mean, I want him to be good - I like that he made the school open for anyone with magic and removed the fees associated...but I'm worried about how much what Fiona said is true. If he's putting hits out on people, that's not okay... (hide spoiler)]

this one was wonderful! So funny and silly and it completely swept me away!

I agree. I just finished Chapter 2. I wasn't sure how I would like it after I finished the first chapter, but I started to like it more once I read the second.

I'm finished. Overall I like it. This was one of those books that had a good plot but shouldn't have taken so long to get there.
