I'm discovering that what I really love about this game this year compared to the way we've done PAS in previous years is that I'm noticing a lot more of the choices made for other people, and having a chance to consider whether they're books I might be interested in, too. Also, none of us is limited to a particular number of books we pick in advance -- so someone is always choosing, not just at the beginning of a session. GREAT game, Tien!

Am getting quite a few off my tbr, woohoo!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to miss my Mar 17 deadline for completing Neruda and Vallejo: Selected Poems. I have been reading it, but I prefer to read poems one at a time, so that means I don't complete many pages of the book in any one day, and I didn't do much reading while I was visiting my kids earlier in the month.

I don't own any property to repossess. So it probably doesn't matter much, but I thought I should let you know. I'm chipping away at it, but it probably won't be this week.

Amy | 2241 comments Question about Free Dreams. I sorted by Random and the book that popped to the top is unavailable from the library right now. There are 2 copies in the library system that are already checked out plus 2 holds before me, so I likely won't get the book for at least a month. Do I wait it out or make another selection?

no, sorry, Dee...

Q: What if I can't finish the book I'm reading for the square?
A: You are required to read at least 1 book per square so read another book that has been picked for you. Or, if you're on a task-related square, pick another book that fits the task.

Q: What if I can't finish any of the books picked for me?
A: Essentially you owe that property owner some 'rent' so you'll need to finish reading a book picked by that owner so go ahead and request one additional book. If property is not owned, make that request in the Book Request thread.

If you cannot finish that additional book, then you go to debtor's jail (not the property) and must read the largest book on your Bookopoly Shelf to get out.

After completing that book, play resumes from last rolled square.

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Sorry by moving on I meant pick another book that fits and continues (it was a task square)

If she hasn't responded by tomorrow, can one of the other mods please pick for Amy? We're glamping and am not sure about connectivity...

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i missed my month deadline again for my sci-fi-fantasy category - was going to listen to Grave Peril, after I failed with my first book attempt - but got caught up in listening to my armchair audies books and have barely touched this one.

I will offer my TKAM square up as punishment

Are you going to get to it soon? If so, you can still keep TKAM. There are not really a plethora of people waiting to buy properties, that is for sure, but if it is going to be a while before you get to the book, I will go ahead and list it for sale.

Let me know what you think.

message 178: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Probably not for a few days - my picks for audies winners is due May 6 and I'll prob be listening up until then

I'm inclined to give you another week or so since no one is waiting for the property. Let me know if you aren't going to finish it by mid-May.

If you have a book on your monopoly shelf that means you can only read if for this game, right?

Not at all, Lusie. You can add & take away books at anytime except when you're just about to roll your next move & waiting for choices. I read off it all the time; just have to remember to remove those ones.

Do join us!

I've done well with 30 books off my tbr to date :)

message 184: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments That's awesome Tien you read so many books for this challenge.

I'll look into which books to add to my bookopoly shelf and hope to be able to join soon.

message 185: by Bea (new)

Bea | 5296 comments Mod
Lusie, I built my bookopoly shelf out of all the books I want to read for other challenges on PAS. I then added any books that I wanted to read for more than two or more groups. Doing this has helped me to make headway on lots of challenges when reading books for bookopoly. I even added my LOST books to the list.

message 186: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Bea, thanks for the tip! Good idea to add the LOST books as well!

I have added lots of books to my bookopoly shelf already. So far have added everything that is on my ereader and books I want to read for challenges.

Yay! Your roll your dice anyway, Lusie as it may take time for others to get back to you... or it may not, just depends...

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Thanks Tien. I decided to roll the dice end ended up with mystery.
I am goingto be ambitious and roll the dice 3 times :)
I read a lot so reading all books withing 4 weeks should be doable, especially with the weekend so close.

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Thanks Tien!

I finsihed 1 book, and thought let's roll the dice again! I landed on GO WATCH TV. And now I have to read the Biggest Thickest Meanest book. For me that is
Gone with the Wind with over 1000 pages! Just my luck...lol

Beside that I have to finish 2 other books first. I better start reading or I won't finish it all! lol

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I don't worry about it though. Lately I read 2 books each week on average. Since we have 4 weeks for each challenge I'm pretty sure I will be able to finish even such a big book with over 1000 pages.

it DOES get confusing after a while! It's good to datestamp each time you roll and also put in due date both so you can backtrack if you need to :)

10 days difference is ok... I'll forgive you :p
