Paola (yliharma) | 470 comments Hi! I'd like to participate but I don't know if I got it all right...just a couple of questions:
- is there a bigger image of the board (I can't read it...) or do I only have to roll the dice and the mods will tell me where I landed?
- how many times do we have to roll the dice? Once per month? Is there a starting/ending date for that?

Tnx!

Paola, Tien listed each square below the picture as she was not able to make the board image larger. You start at GO and count your roll following the listed squares. Please remember to note the square you land on in your moves so you know where to start from for the next roll.

You can do three moves at a time. So that is up to three rolls. When you finish reading one of the books (that is, you complete the requirement for one of the squares you landed on), you can do another roll. The number of times you can roll is based on your speed of reading.

You note the date for the roll, the date your book is chosen (if different from the roll date) and the date the book is due to be completed.

Does that help?

So Bea this is the list of squares on the board https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and they are listed in order?
If for example I roll the dice and get a 4 I land on the "U: Paper Mite Extermination" square?

Thanks for updating Paola, Bea and Welcome aboard Paola. I just checked your shelf and it looks great. Do you know how to set up a thread for your moves? The best example out there is Tien's ...here is the link. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Have fun and let me know if you have any questions.

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Can I make a suggestion re: property ownership/requests

If a owner fails to respond to requests more than once (ie a mod steps in to provide recs) that their property reverts back to being open for purchase

It doesn't seem fair to have ppl waiting for recs more than once

That makes sense to me. I would add though that if they fail to respond to requests more than once within a certain period...as this challenge runs the whole year, a person may be unable to respond once in Feb and in August but stilled fulfilled all other requests timely.

@Dee: thanks for letting us know... We try to moderate and check threads but things do get in between cracks now and then. At the present moment, the property owner has had a couple of notes from us. I am waiting to hear whether anyone has had any response and if not, the property will be placed as 'for-sale' once more.

As per D.G.'s comments, there will be times when people will get bogged down with RL :p plus not everyone checks in to GR everyday like some of us, so it may take them some time.

We'll come back on further ruling...

I just reviewed our rules on page 1 and noted that we've already put in a condition, "If you do not notify anyone to pick in your absence, a librarian will pick for that turn, then your property will be repossessed and requests will go back to being handled in the general book request thread. The property will also be put up for re-sale. "

So, we'll be placing this property back on the 'for-sale' list. Lyn will take care of that when she's online.

I will, however, further clarify that if the property owner is active on own Bookopoly thread, can provide reasonable excuse for delay and have been timely 90% of the time, we may use our own discretion in not repossessing property.

I've just discovered that I've counted wrong, twice. In both cases, I accidentally skipped a bolded space when counting. So my roll 4 should've landed me on Huck Finn rather than on Old Man & the Sea, and my roll 6 should've landed me on Bea's Don Quixote rather than on Romance. In both cases, I've already finished reading the selected book. I'm assuming I should just continue on from here, but wanted Tien's opinion before going on.

It's not like we're on a race or anything like that so just keep going from where you are - you still got 2 books off your TBR! ;)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments IAD rule 4.D - I failed to complete my book for my roll 12 (which was to be completed by 5:15pm today), a book pick from Lyn. I acknowledge that the bank may choose to foreclose on my currently owned property (To Kill A Mockingbird) and that other participants may purchase if they finish a book prior to my completing my pick

Yes no need to wait for anything. Just the usual 4 weeks due date for the jail book but feel free to move on from jail soon as you finish one of your 3 books

D.G. | 1370 comments I just realized I'm more than 2 months late with one of my picks! Oops!

To be fair, I'll be in a BR for one of the books in late March so I can't start it now and I've started the the other two multiple times but I'm not feeling them (I'm a very moody reader and it's like they have a repellent!) What options do we have in cases like this? Can we pick something else?

I think what DG is saying of the 3 books picked for her one square, she can't get into 2 of them and 1 is set for BR at end of March.

I have an idea, DG, but let me just check with the other mods if its ok :)

Here is the moderators' decision.

Q: What if I can't finish any of the books picked for me?
A: Essentially you owe that property owner some 'rent' so you'll need to finish reading a book picked by that owner so go ahead and request one additional book. If property is not owned, make that request in the Book Request thread.

If you cannot finish that additional book, then you go to debtor's jail (not the property) and must read the largest book on your Bookopoly Shelf to get out.

After completing that book, play resumes from last rolled square.

@Lyn, please check out the posts on Huck Finn for February. It seems that this property was to have been reposted for sale due to no response from Kim. D.G. is waiting a decision.

@D.G., either Lyn will advise you whether she will select the book or whether you will need to post in the regular book request and allow one of the participants to do so.

My Bad...So Sorry D.G. When I was doing my audit this weekend I thought I had relisted this property for sale. I swear I looked at it twice and thought I had done it, but somehow I missed it. It actually had been repossessed and is for sale. I have now made the changes.

Since you have waited so long, I will pick a book for you. I believe you only asked for one. Here it is Grave Peril. I love the Dresden files, it is my favorite series of all time. Hope you like this one

AND you can purchase this property if you would like.

Amy | 2241 comments Need a ruling. I landed on Free Dreams and selected my book a few weeks ago. I started listening to it on my ancient portable music player a few days ago, but the player seems to be dead and won't take a charge. I placed the book on hold at the library, but neither an audio nor print version will be available by the time my month elapses.

Should I select another book for this square or wait for the book to show up?

Update...the book is in transit as of this afternoon. If it arrives in a timely manner and I can get a few days extension, I should be okay. Will that work?

Paola, the exact same thing happened to me. The ruling was just to go on from where you are.
