I could not put this powerfully written novel down! I purchased this book, intrigued by the title and this work did not disappoint. The setting of the book, a small rural town in economic and social decline is symbolic of the effects of a series of heinous crimes upon the local community. The story focuses upon the plight of the main characters. The impacts of the murders place additional strain upon people who each in their own way, are already flawed and damaged. Thrown together by circumstances of not their own making, the question is whether any of the characters can overcome their personal demons to put an end to these crimes and free themselves in the process. This novel is both thought provoking and emotional and really stands out from the usual formulaic crime novels. If you are looking for the novel that will challenge you on multiple levels, I cannot recommend this book enough.
