Amazing news, Dragons & Jetpackers! We are the top featured group on Goodreads!

Looky here:

According to GR, these groups are handpicked by the editorial staff - how cool is that?!

We have a great group of members which really makes the group what it is.
The number of new writers that I have found here in a year and a half is amazing

message 19: by Nara (new)

Nara (greengp01) I completely agree with everyone here!
I've found a ridiculous number of awesome books through this group, and most importantly my favourite author (and a favourite of quite a few in this group, I think), Brandon Sanderson!
You mods do an amazing job at keeping everything smooth, and all the members are very friendly :)

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
Ahh Nara, I didn't realise you'd found Brandon Sanderson through the group :D

Nice, I absolutely love Brandon Sanderson, I found him through Wheel of Time when he took over. I loved how he was able to finish that series, even though Jordan left it a bit of a mess, so I started looking around for his other stuff and I'm glad I did :)

I still haven't got around to the Wheel of Time series...I keep hearing mixed things about it and can't decide whether I should pick it up!

message 26: by Rinn, (Retired mod) Captain of the SSV Normandy (new)

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
I've read the first, I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. I plan to continue with the series though.

message 27: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Wheel of Time is amazing, but it eventually gets bogged down around book 9, and then gets back on track by book 12. This is especially true if reading them back-to-back. Things start feeling a little repetitive, and too much time starts being spent on lecturing the nuances of politics and society.

Even so, the core of the story, the characters, and world-building is absolutely top notch. And books 1-8 (technically book 1 is a bit "basic", but a great rendition of typical tropes) and 12-14 are spectacular. The biggest strike against it is just its length, in my opinion.

I think if they ever adapt this as a big-budget TV series, they will do lots of editing in this regard, and most of the (sometimes odd level of) details are just background stuff, so it would feel much quicker.

message 28: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Fun fact: The Audiobooks of Wheel of Time are over 461 hours (19 days) of continuous play!

Sounds like the sort of thing you listen to on a road trip if it is that long!

I eased myself in with the prequel New Spring and then read the first one, but I confess I have yet to bring myself to read the second when I have so many others!

Think we've had about 80 new members in just a few days . Crazy

message 32: by Tom (new)

Tom | 216 comments I remember reading the first one and thinking it was just a straight up copy of lotr, after that though the series easily became my favourite series and only gets better when sanderson takes over

Not surprised to hear that; Sanderson makes everything awesome :P

I'm still debating whether to commit to Wheel of Time, kind of like I am with Dune. Still listening to Mistborn, though.

message 42: by Tom (new)

Tom | 216 comments When I joined I'm sure the group had like 80 members or something, doesn't seem that long ago

message 43: by Rinn, (Retired mod) Captain of the SSV Normandy (new)

At least partially thanks to this - we now have 750 members, which GR deems as 'too many' to invite to things (polls, events etc) individually. Does that mean we're now in the big league? ;)
