Small as an Elephant question

In Small as an Elephant, there is great dialogue. For example, on page 30 it says,"my mother isn't feeling well". This shows dialogue because of what Jack said. This shows that Jack is a liar because he said that his mom is sick. Meanwhile, she is actually missing. It also shows that Jack is embarrassed about how his mom left him. Does anyone else disagree? Also, does anyone else have another good example of this??
