In the book something Like Fate the author Susan Colosanti there is a lot of dialogue. In order to have dialogue you need to focus on what is being said and how it is being said. This is very important in this book because you have to be aware how Lani is talking when speaking to people such as Conner, Blake, Erin and Jason. The way she speaks to everyone is different. When she talks to Conner you can assume she is intrigued by his passion in art and painting. When she talks to Erin you can imagine a tone of trust and friendship (that isn't really a tone). When she talk to Blake we can assume she talk with comfort. When she talks to Jason we can predict that she talks with dreamy voice ( again not tone but I mean that she has that look in her eye Blake always talks about.). These are only some of the people she talks to. Clearly, she talks to a lot of different people in a lot of different ways.

Another thing is that when Lani talks to Jason we can assume that she is talking in a tone almost dreamy like because she is in love with him and can't do anything about it. Also, when she talks to Bianca, we can assume that she talks sarcastically and hatefully because Lani always talks about how she doesn't like Bianca.
I've read this book before and I think the dialogue really helps me understand Conner, Blake, Erin and Jason. Throughout the dialogue I learned in not just this book but in all books, what a character is like through what they are saying.
In this book there are many examples of dialogue. One example is on page 149 the author writes, " Jason moves his arm so it is touching mine. Okay. Now I know he did that on purpose." In order to have dialogue you need to focus on what is being said and how it is being said. In this particular quote, we can assume that Lani is nervous and shocked because Jason is holding her hand and Jason id Erin's Boyfriend. It won't let me do italics on here but the word "know" is in italics and is another sign that Lani is freaking out and doesn't know what to do.
in this book there are a lot of different forms of dialogue. You need to focus on what is being said and how it is being said. There is not always a "she said....." after a quote so you may have to assume somethings and how they are being said. In this quote on page 149 the author writes, " Is it okay that he is holding my hand? Of course it's not okay. Erin would freak if she knew." This is all said inside of Lani's thoughts. You can tell from this quote that she is nervous about Jason holding her hand and that she a scared that is she lets it happen than she will lose her friendship with Erin, even though she wants to hold his hand because she believes that he is her soul mate.
In this particular book there are many examples of dialogue. This means that you have to focus on what is being said and how it is being said. There is not always a specific adjective of verb to tell you how a character is speaking, sometimes you just have to assume. when Lani talks to Erin ( through letters because she at camp) she acts nervous and shaky because she is scared that Erin will be mad that she is dating Jason. When Lani talks to Jason we can assume that her voice becomes relaxed and calm because she is in love with him and loves being around him. When Jason's mom and Lani's mom meet, You can tell that Lani is scared and nervous because she is paranoid that they will find out that they are more than friends, and are together more then they think that they are. She is also afraid because she has been sneaking out to see Jason at night to see him and if Jason's mom tells Lani's mom that she sees Jason at night than she will be in very big trouble. This only a few examples of dialogue in Something Like Fate.
An example of dialogue in this book that helped me understand the moment better was "'Then I'm Ready.' I put down the cucumber I was squeezing into my cart. I never knew being this nervous was possible." This allows me to feel like I can feel the emotions she is feeling, being so nervous you don't even know what's happening which a lot of people can relate to (including me).
