Congratulations on the new job! I love a wander round the National Gallery, I'm very jealous you get to work there!
...and I also look forward to finding some books to fit this task!

Thanks Catie! I am super excited too. At the moment I'm close to Tate Britain, and I've been known to pop in there at lunch time. The National Gallery will be a good change (with the NPG just next door too - an embarrassment of riches!) :)
Will this work for Opt. 3 and be non-fictionGarlic and Sapphires: The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise

Yes.

Initials should be in the same order
Kelly Marianne wrote: "For option 1, can I use the author J R R Tolkien matching Joseph Turner initials?"Yes, middle initials should be ignored

thanks so much
I'm curious about why Edgar Degas isn't included in list of painters for option 1...I would choose a book by Edwidge Danticat if Degas was included.
Lljones wrote: "I'm curious about why Edgar Degas isn't included in list of painters for option 1...Oh...sorry, I figured it out. Degas is not one of the painters included in the 30 Highlight Paintings.

I don't know . it has Art genre, a day seems to be picture focused. Depends on how much word content there is. See the rules, #5,for info.
Only if you can confirm appropriate content for the general requirements can it be considered for the specific task requirements.
FYI, this book was already disapproved as not having enough written content for use for SRC tasks. See https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

For Optioni 2, how about Finale: A Novel of the Reagan Years? It has 462 pp (according to the library from which I borrowed the book from.) For some reason, GR has 580...

The Decay of LyingIs this a valid option 2? It's an essay of only 48 pages, but I was wondering if I could use it as I'll be reading another book by Oscar Wilde for one of the tasks.

All books have to meet the standard SRC rules, including page count, so no.

Okay. Thanks! =)
I I just wanted to check Book of Shadows by Phyllis Curott for option 1, Paul Cezanne and for the non-fiction book. I believe this is a memoir. Thanks!

Can I use Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops for option 1 It has small illustrations every couple of pages, so I am wondering if it can be used?

If you believe the written content totals more than 100 pages then you are probably OK. I note there is no "graphic novels" genre.
Is it okay if both books have nonfiction genre? The Murder of the Century: The Gilded Age Crime that Scandalized a City and Sparked the Tabloid Wars by Paul Collins for Paul Cezanne, option 1
Battles of the Bible: A Military History of Ancient Israel has 320 pages for option 2

I am starting a new job at the beginning of December (woo hoo!) at the National Gallery, London.
This is a TWO book task. Choose from 2 different options below.
Because this is a new start, both books must be new to you, not rereads. And because it's a job, one must be non-fiction.
Required: State that both books are new to you and which options you chose when you post.
1. Great Art: The Gallery has a fantastic collection of paintings, and has a snapshot of 30 of their most famous: Highlight Paintings
Read a book whose author shares initials (middle initials may be ignored) with one of the painters who was working in the period after 1800. These painters are:
Paul Cezanne
Georges Seurat
Claude Monet
Jean-Auguste-Dominque Ingres
Vincent van Gogh (ignoring the middle v)
Joesph Turner
John Constable
2. Great Building: The Gallery is big. Not huge, but big enough. It has a total floor area of 46,396 metres squared - equivalent to around six football (soccer) pitches. It would be big enough to hold over 2,000 London double-decker buses.
Read a book where the page numbers can be found in any combination of those figures (46,396; 6; 2,000) Ex: 263 pages, 300 pages, 436 pages, etc.
NOTE: ebooks without a print edition cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook, listen to an audiobook or read a Large Print edition use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.
3. Great Location: The Gallery is on Trafalgar Square, which plays host to lots of mass celebrations such as the VE Day or New Years Eve.
Read a book in which the first letter of each word in the title can be found in TRAFALGAR SQUARE. Subtitles may be ignored. One word titles are fine.
