Another diverse list of reads from our November Reading Circle!
Not that kind of girl by Lena Dunham
A good and interesting read, not necessarily for the guys!
The secret scripture by Sebastian Barry
Not easy reading, about the hardship in Ireland but a very good writer.
Goodbye sweetheart by Marion Halligan
Interesting read about relationships in families.
Gutenberg’s apprentice by Alix Christie
About halfway through and it took a while to get into but it is enjoyable.
Museum of extraordinary things by Alice Hoffman
Very descriptive with great social dynamics, but not sure about the ‘letter’ style it is written in.
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Really interesting. The author discusses various archetypes and writes well.
Notes on a scandal by Zoe Heller
Just a quarter of the way through and enjoying reading about a teacher being seduced by her student!
A wizard of Earthsea by Ursula le Guin
A good, stock-standard fantasy that avoids the obvious tropes.
Little Women by Louisa M. Alcott
Easy to read, feels like her own story and is interesting because I am learning new vocabulary!
And the mountains echoed by Khaled Hosseini
Beautifully written with likeable and believable characters, the descriptions of place are used really well to tell the stories.
The lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri
Really enjoyable story with really nice characters!
Tirra Lirra by the river by Jessica Anderson
A Miles Franklin Award winner in 1978 this is an interesting read.
Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers
Loved this third in trilogy about orphans raised by nuns to be assassins for ‘Death’! Strong women and a rollicking story!
