Awesome! I started last night :) Just wanted to do a quick post before I sneak into my writing cave.

15%- I really love these books. The author's writing style is so refreshing. The dialogue is so witty and had me laughing out loud yet again. (view spoiler)[And the plot is off to a good start too! I love that the "bite" marks only have one puncture instead of two. So although they mentioned vampires, it's likely to be something else entirely. And I like how the plot is now incorporating an archaeological dig site (the beastly bones, I presume!), since that is Miss Rook's forte. And the scaly kittens with furry dorsal fins? HILARIOUS. I am 24% of the way in, just finished Chapter 10. I am LOVING this so far, too! The "Rumpelstiltskin" exchange had me completely cracking up! And YES, the (view spoiler)[ kittens that had fins...I kind of want one after that description! They sound so cute! Yes, lots of things happening already, between the murders with only one puncture, the cats, and Jenny. I'm really wondering what's going on with her! (hide spoiler)]

I also really loved Jackaby's comment, "You have no appreciation for culture." Their banter is HILARIOUS!

LOL! These books would make GREAT movies IMO!

OMG!!!! Wait till you guys get to Chapter 13--HILARIOUS!!!

I just finished chapter 18. Its really getting good now! I just LOVE the banter between Jackaby and Rook, its the best part of the book! All the characters in this one are good so far! (view spoiler)[ My early prediction is that the "bones" are not a dinosaur, and not even that old, since they weren't buried deep. But not sure how that ties into the one puncture on the dead bodies. (hide spoiler)]

50%! I also went ahead and read the free short story, The Map (thanks for letting me know about it, Jenny!) It was a fun novella with more silliness that reminded me a little of Diagon Alley in Harry Potter :) Back to Beastly Bones! (view spoiler)[I agree, Jenny, the bones can't be a dinosaur because of their positioning. And there's some large creature wandering around, and it's NOT Charlie like Rook thinks :) (hide spoiler)]

Finished late last night! I really enjoyed it, although I felt sad that (view spoiler)[it was the hunter guy that caused all the problems and so many deaths :( But I did like the twist and how it all came back to the chameleomorph kittens from the beginning. I also thought there was a lot more funny banter toward the beginning of the book, and could have used more of that in the middle and the end (the way the Monstrumologist has it the whole way through). But overall, another fun read! (hide spoiler)]

I finished last night too! LOVED it! (view spoiler)[I agree completely, David. I was starting to suspect that it was a chameleomorph thing, had no idea it was the hunter who did it. But actually, he wasn't the bad guy, it was the weird guy that they can't figure out yet. I liked that part, gives us a mystery to look forward to!
I thought the action at the end was great, I was truly terrified for Ms. Rook and Jackaby. I agree there could have been more humor and banter, although I LOVED the scene where Abigail finally kisses Charlie at the station! And then the conversation she has right after with Jackaby! I just love those 2 characters, they are so funny and odd, but together they are even better!
And it sounds like Jenny is in the middle of the next mystery! I really like her character too :)

I also read the short story, and I loved it too! I thought the (view spoiler)[Garden scene was appropriate creepy (hide spoiler)] Fun adventure!

Awesome :) (view spoiler)[Yes, the hunter wasn't the "bad" guy, but it was still his stupidity and poor decisions that caused everything. But it's good to know there's a shadowy evil in the background pulling the strings, that should make for a good third book!

I also loved the kiss scene. I was about to throw my kindle when she got on the train without kissing him. They were past due! (hide spoiler)]
