Sherrie | 1212 comments Jen, I've read Imaginary Girls and I really enjoyed it.

Harlee | 1583 comments Has anybody read Of Poseidon? I have never read a mermaid story before and am kind of wondering if this is a good one. Also, Monstrous Beauty? I currently have this one on my shelf.

READ NOW.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments Has anyone read If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman or The Giver (The Giver Quartet, #1) by Lois Lowry ? I am really wanting to read one of these soon!

message 157: by Heather (new)

Heather (hersecretsmile) | 290 comments I've read both. I'm in the minority and I liked If I Stay but it didn't live up to the hype for me. I read The Giver in elementary school and loved it. I really need to re-read it soon.

message 158: by Jenny, Always smiling! :-D (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
I've read them both. Personally I liked If I Stay better, but it depends on your mood I guess! If I Stay is a tear jerker, The Giver an intense dystopian. I'm the opposite, Heather, The Giver didn't live up to the hype for me!

message 159: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments I am going to read If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman pretty soon. Isn't this an amazing cover?

@Daniel it is an amazing cover!! I'm kind of personally rooting for it to make September BOTM so I have an excuse to buy it and read along for my next read!!

I sort of am too, Rose! I kind of want to see what all the hype is about as well! I'm more of a dystopian lover so for me, The Giver is a favorite of mine!!

a bit late,but.
I have read of poseidon and of neptune, both great books. Love them, they are original, scary, funny, romance filled and family and friends drama filled.
Also thers a very nice summer-y feeling to it.

Defently recomend it.

message 164: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments I have a new question about the Throne of Glass series. I've heard lots of people say you should read the novella/prequel thing The Assassin's Blade first but other people say it's better to read Throne of Glass first so you are not confused. Opinions??

message 165: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Stoolfire | 2047 comments I'm currently reading Throne of Glass and I haven't read the prequel thing. I'm not having any problem keeping up with it.

message 166: by Jenny, Always smiling! :-D (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
You won't be confused so much as you'll have Caleana's back story down...lots happens in those prequels that explains how she gets where she is now!

message 167: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments Okay, thanks gals! :)

message 168: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes I agree, the prequel stories arent necessary but they add to the myth, I read them all when the prequel bind up came out after reading tog,and com so its not like you have to read it first. It is up to you, but if you are unsure you SHOULD read them, very good prequels. but no it doesent matter when you read them.

...So you guys, am "always" thinking about trying these broken stars, but the thing is I normally dont like space books. and have heard people compare it to titanic, and I dident love that either.. so should I try these broken stars?

Oda, I loved These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1) by Amie Kaufman ! It's not really a "space" book at all.

Aw, boo :( My want to read it just cut about in half haha. I've been wanting to read some legit YA, star-fairing YA for awhile now.

Ha, Tommy! Have you read Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1) by Beth Revis series? It's a spaceship. I've heard Avalon (Avalon, #1) by Mindee Arnett is similar to Firefly.

Tommy have you read the Lunar Chronicles or Red Rising? I would classify Red Rising as more of a "space" book because it's set on Mars, but TLC has a moon colony.

Scarlet as in, 2nd book of the Lunar Chronicles? It's my favorite of the series so far.

message 178: by Anna (new)

Anna | 9 comments I really liked it it kept me in suspense. I haven't read the rest of the books but I plan to I did think the romance between Wolf and Scarlet was a little bit for us at times but overall I thought it was really good and I enjoyed their romance between the two is there going to be a Nother installment after winter

message 179: by Karen’s Library (new)

Same for me, Anna. I LOVED Cinder, liked Scarlet, and LOVED Cress. Scarlet was my least favorite of the series probably because of the romance between Wolf and Scarlet. But love the entire series as a whole.

@Rebecca, I am Firefly obsessed and so is my BFF and she read Avalon and said it was another Firefly. A group of loveable characters on a space ship. :)

As far as I know Winter is the last book in the series. Make sure you pick up Fairest (the novella) after you read Cress, it's really good too!

I think Marissa's working on a new novel about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland next, I'm really excited for that one too :)

I think you should still give it a try Tommy. I am pretty picky and I thought it was decent.

message 182: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2372 comments Scarlet was my least favorite so far but that was likely simply because Scarlet is my least favorite character in the series. I loved the introduction to Thorne though and would recommend it simply for that reason!

I have not red ATU yet, but plan on it. I'll bump it higher on the list :)

And for what it's worth, you made up for halving my interest for These Broken Stars by doubling my interest for Avalon.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments Rebecca wrote: "Avalon is similar to Firefly? In what way? I love Firefly, so I'm interested."

Right? I can totally get into that haha. That comparison alone got the book at least one more guaranteed reader.

I've read Cinder and I loved it(5 star). I'm gonna get Scarlet and Cress from the library in roughly a week :)

Haven't jumped into Red Rising yet. I definitely plan to, though.

Yeah, for me the Legend series for me got better as it went along, but I didn't find myself really hooked at any point like I did with The Young Elites.

Legend was 3 3-star books for me. I did genuinely enjoy it, but it never really pulled me in like some books do. Young Elites almost sounds like it has an X-Men vibe to it.

I was just about to say you might not be in the minority. Legend was very beloved, and rightfully so. It was objectively very well executed, I just wasn't the right person for it is all. Still very good stuff and it left me with a high opinion of Marie Lu as a writer.
