Schreck Where does everyone stand on this? I myself am a person who isn't afraid to admit when a movie/show is better than its source material, but in this case I have to side with the normal adage. I do enjoy the show and have watched it every week since its premiere, but I feel some injustices have been made in the way of characters when comparing the two. Andrea, my favorite character from the comic is completely different than her on screen persona who comes off as a nothing more than a conquest for our male leads. There are several other examples of this, but because of the nature of this story which is heavily driven by our characters I find myself always siding with the comic.

Also a lot of the storylines that have deviated from the comic have been boring ie. the CDC, the sickness at the beginning of season 4, and Beth's hospital storyline in season 5 all did absolutely nothing for me.

So which do you enjoy more? The comic or the show?

Joyot The show. I have a deeper connection with the characters in the show than in the comic book.

While the comic book is also good, it comes off way darker than the show. It's sometimes depressing to read the comics because it shows the dark side of humanity in ways that we are too afraid to re-affirm.

LLL Reads I agree with you Shrek, but I like what they've made from the source material. I watch the show but as good as it is, it somehow never is as good as I want it to be, and more often than not, leaves me wanting more b/c there just isn't the time to get in depth enough. with such a big cast, so many characters just don't get the screen time they deserve. The Comic (I only read a handful before I began to watch the show, then later went back and read them) leaves me wanting more too lol--but at least there, I can control the pace of the dialogue, and my eyes can linger on dramatic frames, whereas the show just goes by so quickly.
The casting was excellent overall, I agree with Joyot that I have a better connection with the shows characters, but they did do a disservice to a few. Shrek, you mention Andrea--amen, but what about Dale? The Dale from the show was a "nice guy" but nowhere near the Dale of the books. Also,I like the actor that played the governor, but when I first saw him it took a while for me to reconcile his character in my mind with the one I was anticipating. Overall, I enjoy reading more than watching, but I guess I have to admit that they did such a great job bringing it to screen that it may have surpassed the books when it comes to connecting with its audience.

LLL Reads Oh--and I keep waiting for Rick to (view spoiler) in the show. How 'bout you?

Schreck Well I have to agree completely with you on the casting. For the most part I think it has been excellent and in a few instances (Shane, Carol, Morgan) I think the actors have brought more depth to the characters than was evident in the source material.
I actually wasn't too displeased with Dale's character, but again I think that has a lot to do with Jeffrey DeMunn. I do think that they pushed his character aside far too soon and had his conscience move to Hershel's character and then to Tyrese which is another character I was disappointed in.

As far as your spoiler goes, I read somewhere that Kirkman regrets having done that because it made things a lot more difficult writing later on down the road so I wouldn't expect it to pop up in the show anytime soon unless the show's is nearing the end of its run which I can see happening at the end of next season. I really think that where the show is going now puts us right about issue 100 and All Out War is going to be the remaining storyline and which will probably end at the conclusion of season 7.

LLL Reads YES, the actors brought a lot. I <3 the shows Carol.
Tyrese was a good character on the show, but yeah... he should have had a better part. and YES if it weren't for the actor I would have hated Dale in the show, as it was I just missed the book Dale, but show Dale was alriiiiight--just different.
Spoiler--meh? I read the same about that, this most recent episode S6E5 has some people speculating but it would increase cost of each episode and yeah.. it is impractical story-wise.
I do agree we're heading for All Out War, I honestly hate mid-season hiatus, I don't want to wait.

I think I'll have to write some zombie fiction just to tide me over lol. I've been reading a lot of z fiction on kindle recently, since season 6 started. A lot of them are indie published, so the authors make the first in the series free to get eyes on it. It's a good way to find the ones you like.

I played the story-game on Xbox, not very fun interface, you'd do better to watch someone else play through it on youtube haha, its got some decent choose your own adventure type story branches, so there are variations, the story was alright, but again the controls are kinda lame. (sorry~ is it a faux pas to bring up the game here? its not exactly book-ish lol)

I totally agree!!!! i just started reading the comics and find the tv show more enjoyable... mostly because the comics don't have Daryl.

Jenni Elyse I just barely read the first volume because I adore the show so much. I didn't even know the graphic novel was a thing until after I started watching the show. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it. But, I saw it at the comic book store today and decided to buy the first volume and give it a go.

I really liked it and I want to read the rest of the series. But, I think the show will always have a special place in my heart because I started out with it. Plus, I ADORE Steven Yeun.
