Marliese | 5 comments Please consider entering the Aspiring Authors Write to be Read contest. Your work will be read and commented by many and may win the chance to be read and commented on by a Random House/Penguin Books editor. https://www.facebook.com/The-Aspiring... or www.thefriends.on.ca Best of all it's for a good cause!

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Looks like a good one. 'TheReadingRoom' site also ran a $1000 contest recently.

I often consider entering these things--my stuff has been popular locally. But everytime I read the fine print on these entry forms, I find cause to balk.

Winning a writing contest is just not worth the 'invasion of privacy' such things entail.

Marliese | 5 comments Curious...what aspects of the "fine print" do you find make you balk? This contest means your work would be read by many, many people outside of your local circle.

Nevertheless, I respect your position. Would appreciate it if you would help spread the word. Reading fees support a non-profit charity that assists people with disabilities and seniors.
Thanks for responding.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Well I've found that contests usually want your SS# if they're going to issue you money; and they also want your name and likeness to 'use in their promotional materials'; and they often also want some kind of ownership of whatever you give them to feature in their publication. For amateur writers with no representation, some of these points can be very important. Contest participants tend to blunder into things without thinking farther ahead than the chance of winning. I take a more conservative approach.

Marliese | 5 comments The winner in this contest gets read by Penguin/Random House editors. There is not commitment to publish. We're not interested in ownership...we just want to provide unpublished authors with an opportunity to be more widely read and to receive valuable, professional feedback.

Hey but it's OK....you don't have to do anything. Thanks for your interest.

P.J. Roscoe | 51 comments Looks great, but I'm a published author. Will pass on details to other authors though. What a good idea x
