Nevada (vadatastic) | 53 comments I'm in the middle of reading some dark books right now, and would just like to break it up a little with a quick, lite PNR (heavy on the R preferably) standalone. I really want the standalone part b/c I don't want to get sidetracked on a new series, and I will if the characters interest me in the least.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Kassandra Cross (kassandracross) | 6 comments Hi there,

My new standalone paranormal romance was just released yesterday! It is the first of The Coven Collection - and other books will be released but they are all standalone :)

I'd love to know what you think!

Black Magic: New Adult Witchcraft Paranormal Suspence Romance

Black Magic New Adult Witchcraft Paranormal Suspence Romance (The Coven Collection Book 1) by Kassandra Cross
This heart racing paranormal suspense romance is filled with wicked witches, powerful alpha males and a whole lot of black magic… !

Anna Richland (anna_richland) | 9 comments You could try Archer's Sin - a novella by Amy Raby. It's more high fantasy than paranormal, but it's short, really great, and not dark. A lot of her other books are darker, but Archer's Sin is not.

Sort of PNR, sort of Christmas - Holiday in Death by JD Robb?

And TOTALLY light - awesome change of pace - Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot - basically everyone in Regency England is a witch. And it's an epistolary novel of letters back and forth between two best friends, while they are finding love in their various ways in the country and in London. So sweet!

I feel awkward recommending one of my own books, but you could try The Second Lie (and, I have a paperback giveaway going on this month, FYI). Readers say it's more of a caper/romp/adventure story that just happens to have an immortal hero. Lots of reviews use the word "fun."

I really wrote it as a sort of love-letter to classic old shows like Remington Steele and James Bond movies, and there's a dash of Han Solo in the hero.

It's the second in a series, but you can read it as a stand-alone. And there are only two books in the series so far so you won't get sucked into anything long!

The Second Lie

Good luck!

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Stand alone PNR is kind of rough
The only three I can think of are

Animal Instincts by Gena Showalter Confessions of a Werewolf Supermodel by Ronda Thompson Fairyville (Fairyville, #1) by Emma Holly

Dawn, you're absolutely right! I don't know why PNR love their trilogies or series so much. Straight-up fiction isn't like that, neither is romance, but you throw the paranormal in and it's an automatic series.

Thanks for your recommendations.

Added to my hold list. Thanks!

I entered the give-away for your book. Also, the Sorcery & Cecilia looked really interesting. Thanks for the suggestions!

Oleander | 94 comments Tina Gerow has a number of stand alone UF. I've read Vortex Blues by Tina Gerow and liked it. For pnr may I suggest there are a number of pnr Christmas books that are stand alone. You could check my Christmas shelf if you are interested in that.

Shelby | 73 comments Standalones are very hard to find in the PNR world just like Dawn said.

Obsession is a great book, it goes along with the Lux series but is also a standalone.
Something Witchy This Way Comes is a great young adult book. It's the only one out but will possibly be a series one day.

those are the only two I can think of at the moment. I'll let you know more when I can!
