Round/ Flat Characters and Dynamic/Static Characters

In the book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, there is a lot of different types of characters. So far there hasn't been any static characters but, there is still many different types of personalities in the story. Jonas was round. We know many things about him. He is also a dynamic character because he has changed a lot throughout the book. Another character that is like that is The Giver. He has changed and has many traits that we know. A flat character that is dynamic is Gabriel. He doesn't have many traits but he has changed through the story. That is some of the many round/ flat characters and dynamic/static characters in this story.

I agree Rory. Character is one of the main themes in the Giver. It is one of the legs that helps support the plot.

There are a mixed variation of round and flat, but I found that there were more static characters than dynamic. The only dynamic character I can think of is Jonas.

I agree with both of you. In "The Giver" character is one of the main elements of the book, and it really sets the story. I agree that Jonas is round because throughout the book, we get to know him really well. Through his actions, the reader learns new traits about him that they may not have known before. Overall, Jonas is a round character, and it almost feels as if he is a real person.

I agree that Jonas is a round character and maybe The Giver. The rest of the community is flat. They are all flat because they are all the same. No character traits and nothing that sets them apart from each other.

I would say there are many static characters but there are no main characters who are static. But, the flat characters play and important role in The Giver because it gives a theme of no diversity and how everyone is the same.

I would say that the Giver and Jonas are round as well as Gabriel. Gabriel changed throughout the story. From a regular baby (well besides crying at night) he went to a boy who received a lot of memories. He also as well as Jonas experienced hunger and fear.
Maybe I don't really understand the meaning of a round character. So if anyone could explain, please do that.
