K. Forest (httpsbooks2readcomu3gak5k) | 3 comments Hi Meg, I just debuted my book in March. It's a Mafia (Romantic Drama). Not sure if that is something you would want to read.

Unwanted Inheritance Santos Sonny Ferrari Book 1
Blurb:
My intentions were to have a summer of fun with my twin brother before embarking on creating my own legitimate empire separate from the criminal enterprises of my family.

Everything was going as planned until I met two women.

One would pull me into the seedy world I had always avoided. She brought summer lust along with street racing, assaults, and murder.

The other woman gave me glimpses of the life I wanted in the light with passion and tenderness.

When my actions began to spiral us all into a dark vortex, I realized that fate made the final choices for my future.

Check me out on Instagram!
K. Forest :)

Gilbert | 5 comments Hi, I'm Gilbert Reid. I write literary fiction - two collections - "So This is Love: Lollipop and Other Stories, B07YN9HTZR, and "Lava and Other Stories" B07YNB4WMH, romantic historic fiction, "Son of Two Fathers," B07L5SWY8M, co-authored with the late - - wonderful - Jacqueline Park. And I have just published a science fiction series of eight volumes, "Adventures of V." One of those books is free on Amazon as a Kindle download, for Saturday 17 April 2021 only. B08YNDSKDZ A plot summary below will give an idea of the book and of the series. As for me, I worked in Europe for 30 years and have had many professions, economist, diplomat, university lecturer (in Sicily for 6 years), Director of the Canadian Cultural Center in Rome for 11 years, radio and TV writer and broadcaster. My site - gilbertreid.com - gives more details and links to TV and radio shows. So, here are some details of one book, EXTINCTION BOOK 1 THE GIRL WITH THE GOLDEN EYES. B08YNDSKDZ

PLOT IN BRIEF: In a future dystopian American desert, beautiful elite Cosmos Fascist Youth Leader 14-year-old Miranda, captured by Mutant Prince Caliban, is to be sacrificed on a flaming cross to the Mutant Goddess Dolly the Sheep.

PLOT LESS BRIEF: EXTINCTION BOOK 1 GIRL WITH THE GOLDEN EYES is a vast, ambitious, finely-drawn portrait of a future elitist Liberal Fascist caste-dominated human society, where the 0.000000001 % "Cosmos" elite rules from utopian domed cities over a devastated, desert-like, largely dead, dystopian world. The story takes the point of view, initially, of a beautiful, elite, hyper-talented idealist Cosmos Fascist girl, Miranda, 14-years-old, lost in the Great Central American Desert, then captured by Tarzan-like Caliban, a Mutant Prince, and destined to be sacrificed on a flaming cross by Caliban’s desert mutants to the Mutant Goddess, Dolly the Sheep. The book crosses genres and is multi-dimensional, a thriller, a quest story, occasionally satiric, with metaphysical and mystical moments, and with, at the center, not only Miranda, and her ultra-elite mother Niki, but also our half-alien half-human "hybrid" vampire heroine, V. In a headlong rush, Extinction Book 1 Girl with the Golden Eyes takes us, with the following two volumes, already published, to the end of the Anthropocene. Subservient Subs, Barbaric Burbites, Grotesque Mutants, Cannibalistic Ghouls, and Flying Fundamentalist True Believer Zombie Bats proliferate. A marketing nightmare! A reader’s delight.

Hello everyone;

I'm a working writer and author Bull Garlington from Chicago. I write what I believe are joyfully entertaining slightly ridiculous science fiction stories and novellas. I also write at my day job.

A couple of years ago, I wasn't getting anywhere with freelance pitches and couldn't understand why until I finally just threw my hands up and sent out what I thought were my final pitches, which weren't at all serious and were completely ridiculous. I sold all of them. Since then, I've sold a lot of stories, earned some awards, and carved out a respectable niche in content article marketing.

Now I want to do the same thing in fiction. I'd tried so long to write serious novels and serious fiction until one day I thought 'why the hell am I doing this? Sarcasm is my first language." So I gave in and wrote for the pure stupid joy of it and voila, a delightful novella was born.

However, nobody wants to publish novellas so I put my first couple out there all by my lonesome and I'm kind of wondering if you think they're any good.

Which is why I'm here.

Michael McKinney | 1 comments Good health and calm thoughts to all, my name is Michael Mckinney and I've always loved good science fiction. Many of the stories written in this genre pertain to "first contact" with alien beings and it's a thrilling subject to explore in speculative fiction. The problem as I see comes from the unfortunate tendency for writers to resort to that tired old bag of tricks they employ when their imaginations run dry and empty. Too many sci-fi stories degenerate into "Star Wars" style battle scenes where an evil horde of aliens start destroying worlds in an effort to conquer the universe. This "comic book" approach to the intriguing possibility and likely eventuality of "first contact" is a tired, boring and wholly inaccurate predictor of what extraterrestrial contact will be.
When this miraculous event takes place there will be no conquest, no agressive action, no ultimatums, no threats or intimidation of any kind. It will be beautiful, inspiring and utterly filled with wonder. Science fiction writers employ the old paradigms of planet ripping mayem when their imaginations run dry. I have written what I believe to be the most likely scenario of first contact and will request others to comment but as I understand the rules of this forum this is not the place to make that request. Thank you to all. Michael Mckinney

Gilbert | 5 comments Hi, Thanks for welcoming me to the group. I am eager to have readers review my work and I would be delighted to read and review or critique the work of other writers. I will provide a few samples of some of my work. Meantime, some background on me.
So - who am I? I am a writer and broadcaster and sometime journalist, economist, diplomat, and university lecturer (in Messina, Sicily, for 6 years many eons ago), briefly an adventure travel guide, ages ago, for a French company called Nouvelles Frontières, and so, you can see, I have lived, so far, for a long time. I write literary fiction - two collections of short stories and novellas, So This is Love: Lollipop and Other Stories, and Lava and Other Stories - and historical fiction, Son of Two Fathers, and stylish eroticism - the Gwendoline Trilogy (The Shaming of Gwendoline C, Gwendoline Goes to School, Gwendoline Goes Underground) described by one female reader as "Fifty Shades with Brains & Audrey Hepburn and Roman Holiday thrown in." I have reviewed books for the Times Literary Supplement (London) and Toronto's Globe and Mail, as well as other publications. I have written TV series on war - For King and Empire, For King and Country, some episodes of Greatest Tank Battles, and worked with Peter Ustinov - Pathways of the Gods (on Greek mythology), and East Meets West (on Burma/Myanmar) - and many others, as well as broadcasting on Canada's pre-eminent English-language radio intellectual show, CBC IDEAS, on subjects as varied as war technology, how humans created animals, and French eroticism, the death of utopias, as well as two week-long, five-hour radio series called - by CBC - Gilbert Reid's France and Gilbert Reid's Italy. I have lectured on many subjects - English literature, the works of Flaubert and Tolstoy and Malaparte, and on the various Italian mafias, and on Italian and French history. I have written on art and for many years, as Director of the Canadian Cultural Center in Rome, I worked with the Biennale of Venice, and many other cultural and artistic organizations. My latest big project is an eight-volume science-fiction genre-bending series, Adventures of V; the books are all published, are on Kindle Unlimited, and in paperback, and can, mostly, be read independently or out of order. The heroine, V, is a 2600-year-old charming and mischievous ageless half-alien vigilante vampire who "punishes the evil to protect the good." Her task is to protect humanity, even from itself. For 30 years I lived and worked in Europe, mostly the UK, France, and Italy, and I speak French and Italian and can get by, roughly, in German and some Spanish. I am curious about just about everything - which is a horrible weakness but it does give me lots of dots from various fields and sometimes those dots connect in interesting ways. I'd love to review your work and I want people to read and review mine! I can be found at my website gilbertreid.com Or, you can write me at gj.reid@rogers.com

Depressed professional ecologist of over three decades. Sorry but things have only gotten worse. Channel my despair into my eco-fiction, based on real earth ecology. But don't worry, I sprinkle some wacky on top. I have written four books, two comedic-drama eco-political novels, Birdbrain (Go Ahead. Love Your Planet. Just Not Too Much.) and Treed (Because Trees Have Consequences). One men's short fiction that came out of nowhere, I swear. (Phat's Chance for Buddha in Houston (Or How I Spent My Summer Vacation), and my latest, a book of Eco-fiction Short Stories (Stem and Leaf Plots. Ten Eco-fiction Short Stories). I do a lot of volunteer ecology projects so if you buy/review, I appreciate it. It goes back into projects to restore even a tiny piece of this tired little planet covered in--us.

Janet Stilson | 1 comments Hello,
I would welcome a review of my sci-fi cyberpunk novel, THE JUICE. Here's a synopsis. Let me know if it sounds like it's up your alley:

When charisma is a superpower, it's a mind-bending force.
Jarat Ellington was just an exile from Elite society, trying to lead a simple life, when a genius friend dropped an explosive mystery in his lap. The old pal, Thom Tseng, created a priceless chemical substance called the Juice that turns mildly charming people into almost god-like presences, known as Charismites. But the Juice is stolen, and Thom killed.

With the help of a secret organization, Jarat goes on an obsessive quest to uncover the deadly adversary who now controls the Juice. He must fight his intense attraction to a Charismite named Luscious Melada—once a dirt-poor, homely teen who transformed into an extremely magnetic starlet. And he goes up against Petra Cardinale, a powerful, ambitious media executive with a secret agenda.

THE JUICE is at turns an espionage rollercoaster ride and a spellbinding romance. Along the way, it explores the future of America and government control of media.

Best Wishes,
Janet

Hi Daisy,

I saw on your profile that one of fav's is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I loved reading the Harry Potter series with my daughter and then watching the film versions after we finished each book. Seeing as my daughter loved Harry Potter and my debut novel Shimmer I thought you may like it too.

Shimmer was inspired when my cat 'White Nose' died in 2017. More accurately the novel was inspired by a poem I wrote (included in the book) called 'The Cat in the Moon' written the day 'White Nose' died.

Shimmer is about a cat and a girl who both lose their way but, when they meet, help each other to find their way back home.

My actor daughter Emily (aged 12) has started an audiobook version of 'Shimmer' which can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

If the audiobook whets your appetite then please message me on goodreads and I would be more than happy to send you a free physical copy to read & review.

Warm Regards
Alan Meredith

Reina Sasaki (reina1306) | 15 comments Hi, I'm Reina.

My most favorite novel is the 'Tale of Genji.' Do you know? The author, Shikibu Murasaki, was rumored to create Prince Genji based on herself. And many arcs of the story reflected her yearning to reunite with her childhood friend, Lady Fujiko. My other favorite author included George Orwells, and his dark dystopian world tasted like black coffee. I also like Haruki Murakami's writing style, depicting people as clowns to the world. And I could never get enough of Isabel Allende's strong female protagonists. As for the LGBT genre, Nancy Garden's books came with a soft touch like sponge cakes. Julie Anne Peters's works always make me feel like breathing the same air as the characters. And finally, Sarah Waters, I like how she could recreate Victorian settings with many flavors that kept me turning pages.

I'm always searching for new titles, so please don't hesitate to let me know what you like to read. I also wrote 'very short stories' that I kept updated every two weeks at https://reina-sasaki.mailchimpsites.com

You can find me on Twitter. Look for 'Reina Sasaki,' you're welcome at any time.

Shimmer is about a cat and a girl who both lose their way but, when they meet, help each other to find their way back home.

My actor daughter Emily (aged 12) has started an audiobook version of 'Shimmer' which can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

If the audiobook whets your appetite then please message me on goodreads and I would be more than happy to send you a free copy to read & review.

Warm Regards
Alan Meredith

Hi Barry, your frustration leaped off the page, and I totally get that! Marketing is a miserable mystery. Goodreads is primarily designed for readers, not authors, and while others may have great success at marketing through this platform, I'm not one of them. There are a lot of great blogs, guidebooks, etc. to "marketing" in general -- I especially appreciated some of the YouTube videos that folks have put out. HOWEVER, it sounds like you are at the same place I was when I hired a few consultants to tailor the advice on marketing + how to approach it to me. I used Reedsy.com to find them. Book marketing is nichey -- and I was looking to market fantasy, so I'm not sure the people I spoke with would work best with the variety of genres you have.

Ultimately, the challenge you have is finding a cost-effective way to market. I have not yet cracked that nut. Your non-fiction books seem like they are perfectly suited to niche marketing, where you get your name out there for free by offering to provide zoom lectures, video-promos, etc., to groups. I mean ... in-home kosher wine-making? There has GOT to be a ton of synagogues and JCC who'd want you to come and do a program on it for their communities! What an awesome kind of pre-summer program to do.

I found a college intern to help market my non-profit non-fiction book by cold-calling libraries & various historical societies to see if they were interested in our program. Every time we give one of our lectures, we sell a book or two -- now my goal with that is primarily education (with a dash of fundraising for the NFP), so selling 1-2 books a lecture is completely worth it for me. You'll probably want a bit more conversions to make it worth your while.

Hope that helps!
Laura

PS-people always warn me not to use my email on these pages because bots sometimes scrape them & send spam. There's a "PM" (private message) function in goodreads where people can send you what amounts to an email within the goodreads univers.

Krystal Zoppa | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Krystal. I'm an avid reader myself but I also write as well. I have one book coming out in a couple of weeks. It's currently in the pre-order stage and I'm working on getting the word out about ARC copies. Self-publishing is way easier than marketing for sure.
