I find that I pick books based in moods rather than genres. I often go through “book stages” where first I’ll be in a Dragon mood then move into vampires then into witches, etc. Rinse, repeat, victory

Nick Lavitz | 4 comments Good Morning!

I'm a speculative fiction author currently working on a number of Urban Fantasy projects. I'm currently trying to find reviewers and feedback on my first serious effort at publishing a novel, and hope to find some enthusiastic readers here. That novel will be published on December 18th and you can grab an ARC via StoryOrigin or BookSprout.

I have a number of shorts out in the world. I'm privileged to have a few hundred people who follow my work fairly closely, and enough experience to point to a respectably large pile of rejection letters.

Very happy to have found this community!

It is a story of love and women's resilience during the rise of fascism and WWII. The book has been 14 years in the making and is based on the real-life and events of the Italian women in my family during this time and the stories they shared with me. It releases on March 8th (International Women's Day).

Nice to meet everyone!

Grazie! Jennifer

C.J. Rune (cjrune) | 1 comments Hello, all. Long time reader, first-time caller here.

I'm into reading all fiction genres, except romance, but only because my wife might catch me. :) I'm sort of a science nerd, so I really enjoy Hard SciFi, but not so much a nerd that I don't also enjoy Soft SciFi equally as much. I also like to read fantasy in order to "get away from it all".

Some of my favorite authors are Michael Crighton, Ken Follet, James Patterson, Carl Sagan, Mark Twain, Dean Koontz, and George R. R. Martin - and I hope to be adding many indie authors' names to this list in the very near future.

I'll be releasing my own debut novel soon, though I consider myself as much a reader as an author, and intend to write those books I've been waiting to read but others have stubbornly refused to write.

message 1910: by Maya (new)

Maya Hiya everyone, call me Maya. :)

I've always loved to read but I've only just joined up to Goodreads this June 2020, and I would love to meet like-minded readers and writers! I'm a budding teacher by profession, so my reading picks are most definitely characterised by a desire to share inspiration with others.

I read most genres but my favourites in fiction are: Classics, Fantasy, Mystery, Thriller - and wholesome stories teaching valuable lessons. In non-fiction: Psychology, Self-help, Health, Teaching, Spirituality, Religion.

message 1912: by Zoey (new)

Zoey Za (zoeyza) | 8 comments Hi fellow bookworms! I'm a particular fan of comedic memoirs, and so I decided to write one myself:

"I'll Laugh About This Later" book description:
My name is not Zoey, but the rest of this story is pretty legit. I did grow up in Hawaii, and I do check the boxes "two or more races" and "millennial" on surveys. My journey includes a cast of close relations who are managing schizophrenia, OCD, hoarding, and sticking-head-in-sand. I have included an unhealthy dose of detail regarding my struggles sexing and relationshiping. I also share my struggles to try the make-the-world-a-better-place thing, despite my urge to sprint away from every mildly uncomfortable conversation. I've been lucky to find humor in most of my life. There may be bits of this story that bum you out. However, I'll only let that go on for a few pages before I say something awkward that you might laugh at. For example, if I tell you someone dies, I'll quickly follow up by telling you about the time a 12ish year old boy hit on me at a grocery store. (He may have mistaken my work backpack for middle school gear, or he may have just been a baller.) There's a splash of politics and COVID-19 pandemic fun in here too. I would describe this story as having a happy ending.

Danni’s teenage life pretty much sucks. Panic attacks and phobias are a battle, but she knows there is a very good reason she’s afraid. If only she could remember what it is? Danni grew up on Harry Potter and Twilight, avidly reads fantasy novels, and feasts on Netflix. These are the best things in her life, everything else is a work in progress like controlling her anxiety. She doesn't fit in anywhere and suspects she might be adopted. Does everything have to be so hard? Adding to the frightmare, Danni moves to the city of Edinburgh in Scotland where the grey weather suits her grim mood.
She's so not impressed with her excusive new school even though it's housed in a castle like Hogwarts. It's just yawntastic school with no magic apart from James MacAbre. He confuses Danni by insisting on following her around. He loves Shakespeare, and all things military, and his speech is strange too. He persists in giving Danni weird salutes and vowing to protect her ‘til death, forever. Danni begins to suspect that James is not from this time. Although he has firmly friend zoned her, James still struggles with jealousy when Danni makes friends with Stewie. Stewie has his own secrets, but Danni is too completely swept up and fascinated by the drama surrounding James to pay attention. Danni is sure James must be more than human. When Danni searches for answers, James pushes back hard and warns she is endangering them both. But she is still determined to discover his secrets. James promises Danni he is not a vampire: nor a time traveller, nor anything she has ever heard of, but he's not a normal mortal so what is he?
Whatever else he is, Danni suspects James is a military hero. He sees his job as to protect Danni, and to fight for anyone who needs it. She is a pacifist who argues no civilised society should ever resort to war. His enemies are close? But that doesn’t mean they can’t be friends. Or does it? Why does everyone keep calling Danni ‘Rose’ and why does Rose MacAbre look like Danni? James won’t even kiss Danni, it's against his killjoy knights' code, is it because they are related? Faced with mortal danger Danni hides under the bed and has no plans to come out anytime soon. James needs Danni’s help more than she ever imagined in her worst frightmare, but things lurch from bad to worse. Danni hopes Stewie will be clever enough help her to solve a centuries old mystery, but the odds are not good.

H. (scottishwinter) | 2 comments Hi all,

I am new to goodreads.
I love reading and pretty much always have my Kindle on me.

I have been working on a back log of reviews (at least given the a star rating) for books I have stored on my Kindle & ipad.

I have decided that going forward now I have my goodreads account liked up to my Kindle account I will write an honest review for each book I read.

I mainly like to read romance & fantasy. This can vary from contemporary to dark.

I have recently started working on my own book series. Nothing too serious!

I wasnt sure if this is the place to see if anyone would be interested in having a read of the 3 chapters I have posted on here.

I would love to hear anyones feedback is they were willing. This is the first time I have attempted anything like this :)

Anyway! I thought a group like this would be a good one to first introduce myself to. I am always looking for new book recommendations and love reading through reviews before buying!

Ellen Brazer (ellenbrazer) | 4 comments Hello. My name is Ellen Brazer and I am so happy to have finally found a place to share with other authors. I have just finished my 5th book and first biography, I Am Meir's Brother. It has be a glorious and honored journey for me. I would like to offer the book for pre-publication review. The summary follows and I can be reached directly at ellenb9815@bellsout.net
I Am Meir’s brother is a biography of the celebrated research scientist, Eliezer (Eli) Huberman, and the relationship he had with his Israeli spymaster brother, Meir (Huberman) Dagen. In order to grasp the influences that turn ordinary people into extraordinary people, the story begins with Eli and Meir’s parents. The family, including two-year old Eli, escape from Poland and the Nazi extermination in 1941, only to find themselves entrapped in the frozen tundra of a Russian work camp. Through resilience, ingenuity and determination that would be passed down to their sons, the parents survive. Meir is born at the end of the war, on the family’s way back to Poland, where they are greeted with devastation and derision. By the time they finally booked passage to the newly formed State of Israel, their Zionist father had firmly instilled in the psyche of his sons a fervent commitment to a Jewish homeland.

Eli excelled as a gifted and exceptional student. He served in the IDF, participated in the various wars, received a master’s degree in microbiology and a PhD, and drew international attention for his published papers on cancer research. Upon meeting Lily Ginzburg, a life-long love affair began. A child prodigy pianist from Poland and the descendant of survivors, the book examines her family’s life during the war and the impact it had on her. She becomes the bedrock of Eli’s existence, birthing two sons—shielding and protecting him from daily distractions. Eli’s demeanor, insightfulness and genius would open doors into the rarefied corridors of the greatest research institutions in Israel, America and the world. Every day of his life was spent searching for cures, unraveling mysteries, sailing another unchartered course, each step deliberate and insightful. There were incalculable successes and heartbreaking failures, accolades and dismissals. Through it all, he never quit and never stopped believing in the unbelievable.

While Eli devoted himself to science, his younger brother, Meir Huberman Dagan, dedicated his life to the State of Israel. A zealot like his father, he rose through the ranks of the Israel Defense Forces, eventually becoming a Major General. He was appointed Director of the Mossad, the National Intelligence Agency in Israel. A hero known as the King of Shadows Meir was disappointed when his brother left Israel for America. Knowing he was unable to protect Eli and his family from the possibility of a retaliatory assassination attempt, Meir resolved to keep their familial relationship a secret. As proud as he was of Eli, it was not until the end of his illustrious life that Meir definitively acknowledged that he had a brother. The title of this book is Eli’s way of telling the world how honored he is to say, I Am Meir’s Brother.

George Scott Happy End of 2020! And let's forget the first week of 2021, too.
I'm a new author and have published my new Civil War novel after more than a decade of research. I wrote it as a culture study, but my sister thinks it's a romance.

Anyway, the story is a new look at the Civil War by a young man from Boston who is marooned in Charleston just as Lincoln is elected. There is more information on the book's page (search "I Jonathan, A Charleston Tale of the Rebellion").

I've made several book trailers, and this one has reached about 30,000 FaceBook accounts:

Thanks, All. I'm happy to give an eBook (ePub or Mobi) in exchange for reviews. -George WB Scott

My first love is children's picture books and I have been studying them in depth and even focused my PhD. dissertation on them. My major research is on the visuals and design of picture books and recently reviewed (for a presentation and future article) all the 2018 diverse books that were eligible for the Caldecott award that had illustrated end papers. Prior to that, I taught 3-5th graders and used picture books every day, for pleasure and to use to get my students thinking about their own writing for daily writer's workshop.

When I teach children's literature courses at my university, I have students use Goodreads to document their reading and post reviews.

I would love to formally write reviews for new children's picture books, both to keep up to date with the trends and to share my love of them with others, especially related to the visual elements.

My other reading interests are biographies of creative people and nonfiction related to nature for "everyday" readers.
