Jamie Moss In The Secret Life of Bees, the main character Lily is a round and dynamic character. She has many good traits that change throughout the book. Right now, I am on page 102 and I can honestly say that Lily's traits make a huge impact on the story line. If she didn't change, the book would be boring and uninteresting. As she goes on her journey, she changes as a person and what she thinks. What is your opinion?

Jessie I agree with your statement on round and flat characters.

Lexie Meltzer I have not read this book but it seems like the way you are putting it, makes it seem that she really is what you said

Lexie Meltzer I only read a few pages of it and was not that interested but now that I see what you said, I might restart it!

Jamie Moss You really should!!! I agree that the beginning was a little boring, but it gets better.

Jessie I have read this book, and your paragraph on flat and round characters accurate!

Jamie Moss I am now on page 219, and Lily is very dynamic and round. On page 215, Lily says, "Sometimes I didn't even feel like getting out of bed. I took to wearing my days-of-the-week panties out of order. It could be Monday and I'd have on underwear saying Thursday. I just didn't care." This shows that Lily has changed since the beginning because earlier in the book, she was very worried and up tight about what they did. Now, Lily feels comfortable where she is and doesn't care what she does. This is a huge change in Lily as a character.

Lexie Meltzer Now that I see this, I think I want to read it even more! this is a great description.

Gabriella5 she becomes more excepting of people

Carmel Hanes One of the things that makes me most enjoy a book is good character development, people who are complex and who evolve as the story develops. Your flat versus round comparison captures that nicely. This story has always been one of my favorites for this very reason. How Lily changes and grows in understanding through her relationships with the sisters is done well, and reminded me of my own relationships. Great book!
