What's wrong with Felurian?

***Talks about events in the book - spoilers***

Okay. Please, someone... everyone... please tell me why all of the Felurian mentions I've read so far seem to really dislike the whole fairy-sex thing? I thought it was awesome. I don't... THINK I'm a pervert... but I thought it was pretty freakin' sweet that Kvothe got it on with Felurian...

I mean.... sure Kvothe didn't get to learn magic, but he sure as heck learned plenty of other useful skills (and if you don't think being good in bed is a useful skill... well... I have no words...).

So, please, everyone... tell me why all the Felurian UN-love?

I thought it was awesome, too! It did drag on for too long, though.

The dreamy alieness was kinda cool in the beginning.

But she has zero personality and nothing interesting is happening, for pages without end, beside what could be summed up as:

"Yo, I met this Felurian sextoy, owned her by calling the wind, learned mad sex-skills by banging her a lot, wrote a song, and got a cool new outfit."
*fistbumping the other dudes at the inn*
"Oh, and I talked to this weird tree-thingie that said some disturbing things about this capricious girl I'm constantly whining about"

The worst thing is that he proceeds to do pages upon pages of exactly the same with the swordmanship practice (including having another fuck-toy throw herself on him). Because, apparently he need to level up on fighting skills too, before he can kill some king and waste the rest of his life in that inn...

Presumably because he instantly forgets all the skills (and refreshingly uncomplicated girls) and crawls back in the friendzone with that bad-news and damaged-goods girl.

No one dislikes Felurian.

I think maybe people felt that portion of the book took too long, or that not enough "interesting" stuff was happening.
I'm totally on your side though. (And also not a pervert)

Dee Sweet. I'm glad I'm not alone here... I get that it dragged... but maybe for me it didn't drag as much... maybe because of the pattern of books I tend ...more

I thought it was an intriguing section myself. I didn't mind it at all.

Me too!! I saw the character of Felurian as something really cool due to the fact of adding a more types of plot into the story. Perhaps, I loved her, she was lovely and never lead to a vulgar side nor to a bad side of been seen as something purely sexual.

Like many others have said, Felurian was a really great character but perhaps the part of them being together did go on a bit too long. That being said I do think she is quite key to him growing up and i'm really curious to see if she appears in the third book, I think she could have a really interesting part to play yet.

But why a sex fairy. couldn't it have been some other fae to teach Kvothe and do all that foreshadowing. It seemed out of place.

because a lot of the time being good with women is a prerequisite for male-created male protagonists. I don't dislike the series but I think the way rothfuss writes relationships and sex etc are very idealistic and that in those regards kvothe is pretty similar to the bad boy charmers of the 80s i.e. han solo (actually an idiot, but yknow). still, felurian's part was key to introduce the cloak, the cthaeh (the tree) and to further kvothe's reputation, so *shrug*
