I think it depends on the expectation of privacy (none), the presumption of authority and accuracy (near none). Where there is no expectation these, it is no different than a public bulletin board, the definition of open source.

As to how much support there is, in the short time I have been wandering around it appears that there is a lot. It happens in a variety of ways, from the moment one says "hello"
