Darren Judge That will make your claim much better.

CoffeyQ Back onto Foils, I found that Chuck was a foil for Teresa, with Chuck being the person that wants to socialize with you and Teresa being the person that would not care if the whole world was dead and she had nobody to talk to

Scott I think late book Alby is a foil for Thomas. Near the end of the book Alby has turned from a brave leader to a cowardly nobody. With Alby basically being afraid and doubtful of everything, Thomas's Braveness and leadership stands out. What do you think?

message 104: by Sydney (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sydney Fader luke, the fact that Ben is insane and Thomas is sane is not a good foil i is too broad

message 105: by Luke (new) - rated it 5 stars

Luke I can provide more examples if you'd appreciate that, Darren.

message 106: by Sydney (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sydney Fader their was a lot of struggle ryan

CoffeyQ Luke wrote: "I disagree with you Darren because Ben is a lunatic because he attempts to kill Thomas, bu Thomas is completely sane."

Correct me if I am wrong, but Ben tried to kill Thomas when he was in the Graveyard?
Another difference from the two is that Thomas was already brave when he was attacked, but when they were going to kill Ben he pleaded for their mercy making him a coward

Scott I think Alby is a dynamic character. In the beginning of the book, he is a brave and an outgoing leader. At the end of the book he is afraid and doubtful of everything. What do you think?

message 109: by Darren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Darren Judge I did notice that Ryan and I think that Dashner made that to provide more characteristics to other characters and make them more round by saving the people from the balls.

message 110: by Sydney (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sydney Fader I see what you are saying scott but that does not really support foils

message 111: by Ryan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ryan Coffey not everyone has had the joy of reading about giant metal face eating balls of death, so stick to the first book.

message 112: by Luke (new) - rated it 5 stars

Luke Why did you rate the book only a 4, Gian? It was a spectacular piece of writing.

Scott RyanCoffeyq wrote: "Back onto Foils, I found that Chuck was a foil for Teresa, with Chuck being the person that wants to socialize with you and Teresa being the person that would not care if the whole world was dead a..."

I fully and strongly disagree. Teresa cares if the entire world was dead, and she can talk to Thomas, and eventually talks with Chuck, Minho and Newt. And Chuck
doesn't want to socialize with anyone just Thomas. No one else cared about Chuck.

message 114: by Darren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Darren Judge I agree and disagree with you Scott. He was not alive for the whole book, but he did change. He is static, but dynamic at the same time.

message 115: by Sydney (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sydney Fader you could kind of say chuck is dynamic, i mean because no on in the maze has a memory it is kind of hard for anyone to be dynamic besides Thomas and Teresa if we are going to get into the second book

message 116: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott Darren wrote: "I agree and disagree with you Scott. He was not alive for the whole book, but he did change. He is static, but dynamic at the same time."

The statement "He is static, but dynamic at the same time" does not make sense. I think he changes in every aspect, in leadership and courageousness. Can you explain more Darren?

message 117: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott Sydney wrote: "you could kind of say chuck is dynamic, i mean because no on in the maze has a memory it is kind of hard for anyone to be dynamic besides Thomas and Teresa if we are going to get into the second book"

I disagree and agree at the same time. I think Chuck changed by being a little more brave but overall, he did not change that much. What do you think?

message 118: by CoffeyQ (new) - added it

CoffeyQ A character can not simply be both Static and Dynamic, it is physically impossible to change a lot over the course of one book but also not change at all. Please explain

message 119: by Sydney (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sydney Fader well it is possible, because the only thing you may know about a character is that they are mean to the main character but then, that character may be nice to the character. I know this is a bad example but it is the only way to have a static and dynamic character

message 120: by Tucker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tucker Peterson I think that they are not all round because Newt and Alby never had another side to them they were always like themselves.

message 121: by Joshua (new)

Joshua Smith You learn about Teresa through how she acts with the boys wanting answers.
