I just got this game and am a fan of it

I just got the board game Twilight Imperium 3rd edition. It is a rich game but rather long. Has anybody played it? Tips strategies and just regular chatter about the game is welcome.

I played it a fair bit a few years back, in college. Don't remember enough to discuss strategies or anything, but I really liked the game, although game sessions lasting for eight or more hours sadly isn't something I have the time for anymore.
