Delitealex My TBR is just so out of control. I have been reading many books from scrbd and kindle unlimited but in 2016 I really want to read down my Tbr pile. This year kindle has had many sales that I was to weak to resist especially series :)

My tendency to pull a book version of The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain really doesn't do much for pile reduction...! I just added another traction book yesterday, and it won't be the last of the year, either.

I'm also hoping to read a bunch and pass some of them on afterwards. I've already filled our home library shelves, so now I'm piling them up on the floor, in the guestroom and various other places that will hold a stack or two :-)

I have bookcases lining the bedroom walls, plus boxes and bags of books in my extremely large closet -- taking up a good quarter of the space. It's bibliophiliac chaos around here.

In our new apartment we built a 2.5m x 2.5m bookshelf just for me. In the previous apartment my husband had really only noticed the books piling up on the shelves, not those hidden away in boxes and bags, and so he assumed this bookshelf would contain my book addiction. Now he sees my books double stacked on the shelves he realises my problem is much worse than he ever imagined.

I'm still working on getting my floor-to-ceiling bookshelves for all the stacks that don't fit in my four (inadequate) free-standing bookshelves....at the moment, I've got stacks up and down the hallway. :-)

message 71: by Miranda (new)

Miranda Hi everyone, my name is Miranda and it's my first year taking part in Mount TBR.

Over the past couple years I've been trying to tackle my TBR shelf and in 2014 I knocked 16 books of the list and in 2015 (so far) 34 books. Like many a bookaholic though I buy new books faster than I read them and I don't think that's going to change in 2016 but I would like to get more of my older books read (bought 5+ years ago).

My TBR on Goodreads is currently 206 physical books but there are about 30 books that I've yet to add - I'm in denial and if I don't add them then they don't 'count', not to mention all the paid for ebooks and audiobooks.

I'm thinking of going for Mt. Vancouver but hoping to level up during the year!

Kiki | 9 comments Hey everyone! I am Kiki from Germany and I think this challenge is wonderful! I have been working part time in a book shop the last two years which means discount and free book samples which is killing me!
I am trying to stick to the read three buy one-mantra, but mostly it is read one buy three...
So I will also try for Mt. Vancouver, as my pile is not as intimidating as some of yours only amounting to about 80 (56 physical, the rest audio and e-book)and the years isn't over yet.
Looking forward to this although I am afraid I might find so many new books browsing through everyone's piles that after this year it is going to be worse than ever :D

message 77: by Pam (new)

Pam Lauman | 42 comments I am also arriving from the Books on the Nightstand group. I would love to whittle my pile of owned books. I feel guilty that I haven't read some wonderful books that I have owned for years. I've read almost 100 books this year so hope to get through 48 (Mt. Ararat) of my own!

message 78: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 7 comments One of my goodreads friends joined this group and it sounds like fun. I'm going to try for 48. That still leaves wiggle room for new books. Because who can resist all the new books that come out?!?

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* I've been looking around for reading challenges for my blog and I stumbled on this. So this is my first year and I'm attempting to do Mount Blanc! I have more books on my shelf, but I want to read some new releases for next year as well.

message 80: by Luisa (new)

Luisa Yay, I loved this challenge! I've been doing this for the past 2 years on my own, so it will be amazing to have more people trying to climb those mountains with me.
So far I've managed to read 20 books from my TBR (in 2015), so I'm going for 12, but hopefully I'll reach 24 :D
Can't wait to conquer this challenge.

message 81: by Jadetyger (new)

Jadetyger Sevea I just joined this group after hearing about it from another group and am excited for 2016. I have boxes of unread books that I need to get through, before the 'Leaning Tower of Pisa' swamps me!

I'm starting out with Pike's Peak, as this is my first time doing this. I may go higher if I finish. :)

Justme | 14 comments I've just joined Pike's Peak for my first climb! Feel free to call me Jule.

I am an avid reader, usually topping 200 books/year, but I neglect the educational & motivational types for the entertainment & HEA types. So, I've challenged myself to increase this year's 4 non-fiction to 12.

My physical TBR isn't complete yet, though I have about 8 stacks surrounding my bed that I am presently adding & just a few more boxes in storage left to go. Most of these were gathered many years ago, as most of my newer TBR is a datastick of ebooks...so about 500 physical non-fiction books & 6500 ebooks to choose from! Wow!

One of my favorite memories is of my mom & I, both sick with the flu (around 1977), laying on opposite sofas, feeling horrible, reading books...we looked across at each other & had a good laugh! Miss you Mom!

message 87: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (kendrasmills) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Kendra. I found this group during a late-night Goodreads binge session, after realizing that I have WAY too many books. I work in a bookstore, so the constant exposure to good books has left me with a TBR pile of over 300 books, not including my Kobo and library lists. That being said, I'm joining the Mt. Kilimanjaro crew, with a goal of 60 books this year.

Good luck to everyone participating!

message 88: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Well, Kendra, I guess working in a bookstore would be disastrous for all of us bookworms! I can see myself with an even bigger TBR than I have now...

message 89: by Holly P (new)

Holly P (hlp0221) | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm Holly and I tried this challenge a few years back (pretty sure I fell flat on my face). Don't know if this is such a great idea since I start grad school next month but this will give me motivation to put down the textbooks once in awhile and read something for fun. Challenge Level: Mount Blanc

message 90: by Kelly Anne (new)

Kelly Anne (irishteacher) Hello! I'm Kelly. I just found this challenge and I love it! I have a real "problem" buying books. People also give me a lot of books because they know that I like to read. I'm hoping that this challenge will push me to read some books that have been sitting on my shelf for years.

I'm going to start small and try and tackle Pick's Peak. I have plenty of books to read, I just know that I won't get to them all. I'm hoping that I will now be motivated to clear out my shelves!

message 91: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 10 comments I think I may have enough books to hand to make a modest attempt, despite being a mainly library book reader so - I have found 23 so far and am still sorting books.....

message 92: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella | 17 comments Hello! I'm Gabriella. I was just searching for a challenge and found this one and I really loved it. I'm awfully bad at going through a list with a specific set of books, so I think this one will help me more than the others. Anyways. I've climbed Mt. Everest during 2015, mainly because I've read a lot of poetry and children's books for the university. But I think not even 1/3 of that was mine, so it wasn't quite fair, I guess.

In 2016, I'll start small and go for Mt. Vancouver, or at least try to, as I have more than 200 books unread and I just keep buying more.

message 93: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) Hi I'm Diana. I'm a book hoarder and have joined this group to help work through my pile. I will read almost anything but not keen on misery memoirs. Currently reading YA holiday short stories. I work in a school library so see new books all the time. My own TBR pile has mostly come from op shops ( thrift stores).

message 94: by Cally73 (new)

Cally73 Hi I'm Jayne aka Cally73. I joined after seeing my friend Diana (just above me) join. My TBR pile is in the hundreds - mostly added from sales, when Amazon UK had the free shipping to Australia and when I've been in the UK with a good exchange rate. This is not taking into consideration what I have on my Kindle. I just can't help buying new books and it's really my only indulgence. (Other than holidays.) I'm hoping to knock off El Toro which I believe is doable based on how many books I can read in a year and still allow room for me to read the new purchases I'll be making.
