In the Ichidian Universe no one was safe people were dragged from their homes and killed in the streets. Victims of a ruthless tyrant who was bent on being the sole ruler. Those who opposed him formed an alliance called The League, which fell under the leadership of the Quorum.

The Quorum realized that the best way to keep trouble from starting was to cut it off at its knees. So a separate group of soldiers was needed, The League Assassins. Highly trained and highly valued, they are the backbone of the government. But not even the League is immune to corruption…

Command Assassin Nykyrian Quikiades was born and trained to slaughter. Refusing to be a pawn, he turned his back on the League and has been hunted by them ever since. Though many have tried, none can kill him. Now his assignment is to protect Kiara Zamir, a woman whose father’s political alliance has made her a target. She wants nothing to do with politics, yet she is forced to submit to protection or die.

And as her world becomes even deadlier, Kiara must entrust her life to the same kind of beast who once killed her mother and left her for dead. Old enemies and new threaten them both and the only way they can survive is to overcome their suspicions and learn to trust in the very ones who threaten them most– each other.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments This one started out really slow for me mostly I think because the world is very different and you need to get used to it and the different words being used. Once I had that down the story tended to be pretty predictable, but I enjoyed going on the journey all the same. I liked watching the hero go from I am an island all by myself to slowly start letting people in. I also like how he would drop all these horrific events that happened to him on his girl and then want her to accept them on the spot. Her telling him to hold on and let it sink in so that she can take what she knows about him and add in these new tidbits was great. Overall I liked the space drama of the story and am looking forward to the next one.

I have found that this series has gotten better with each book.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments If memory serves this was one of those books where I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes. As a sci-fi book it would never make it to many undeveloped pieces in the plot and the world building was just so so. Initially Kiara was just a bit to cliched and Nykyrian was a bit too sad but it works. Despite the challenges I considered them minor and I was honestly hooked about a quarter of the way through.

Like Darcy said the series gets better and better.

Karen (karen_stewart) I like this book but it does tend to read a bit long, all SK's books do that for me though.
