SOLVED. Urban Fantasy - woman sent to another dimension with vampires and other creatures; works on police force [s]

The female main character somehow was sent to another dimension where vampires and other creatures exist and are very known to the common people. She works on the police force there, just as she did in her own dimension. She has her gun with her, but gunpowder/firearms are not known/invented in this dimension.

The book starts off with the woman trying to create gunpowder and lights a small sample in a room (possibly her house/apartment). Her partner - who is a gelatinous mass with a human form - is with her. There was also mention of her partner being injured once and his gelatinous insides spreading everywhere.

Well the first bit made me think of Dying Bites by D.D. Barant but I don't recall a gelatinous character or a lack of gunpowder. You might take a look at the 'reader's also enjoyed' link on that book page though since it's got a very similar storyline.
